Posted By: Buddha Jones, 12-27-2007, 11:50 AM

Hello all! I am going to make this a sticky post in hopes that I can get all of you who have submitted pictures to the Pentax Photo Gallery (PPG) and have had them accepted please post a couple of them here and please link back to your gallery so we can see your work. We have so many incredible photogs on this site I am curious to see what Pentax considers your best work.

Thanks!

That's easy enough! The pic of mine that got accepted is one I also posted to the user's gallery on this forum and also posted in the "Best of 2007" thread. Here's a link to it in the forum gallery: User Photo Gallery - Landscape

For what it's worth, I had submitted all of the pics I have posted in the user's gallery here (and more). The one I linked to is the only one that got accepted.

Here is the link to my wee section of the PPG. I haven't submitted anything since they didn't accept this photo, which I think is one of my best.

I am too busy shooting and having fun to be bothered submitting much to the PPG. I think their selection process is a bit daft. There are some I want to remove from my part of the gallery, but I haven't as yet. Anyway, here is the link to what I have there:

Laree,

You have some truely nice photos in the gallery. Really just gave me some faith in the 50mm 1.4 as a landscape/scenic lense.

Just a quick question on the gallery as I am a newer memeber to the forums - do you have to use a pentax lense to submit a photo (I just noticed all of yours are taken via pentax lenses). Oh that ocean shot with the multitute of sunrays is pretty fantastic.

Also, how would you go about submitting something to the gallery?

Anyone feel free to answer this.

Thank you kindly Chris. If you go to the Pentax galleries at:
PENTAX Photo Gallery
In the upper right corner of the screen is a drop down menu called "site tools". In that menu click on "contact us" and fill out a form to be sent an invitation to submit to the PPG.
As far as using Pentax lenses, that was the case when I got the images I submitted approved. They have changed the requirements now and allow other lens use. But I think they do bias toward the shots submitted using both Pentax cam and lens. It makes sense that they would. It is a site to advertise Pentax cameras and lenses after all. They no longer have the stipulation that the lens used has to be a Pentax lens. I hope this info helps a bit for you.

Just for those who are wondering, here are the rules for submission as of 28 Dec 07...

QuoteQuote:
How to submit photographs to the Gallery:

1. Dimensions: The recommended image size is 600 pixels high.
Images larger than this will be automatically resized.
Images smaller than this will not be uploaded to the site.
2. JPG/JPEG format photographs only. No BMPs. No GIFs. No TIFFs. No RAW.
3. Photos must be selected for one or more of the following categories: Abstract, B&W, Cityscape/Urban, Documentary, Glamour/Fashion, Landscapes, Lifestyle, Macro, Nature, Portraiture, Sports/Action, Travel, Food.
4. Do not add text or graphics around or overtop your image. This includes watermarks, single pixel keylines, frames and borders around the image. Also not allowed are dates, copyright info or URLs on top of the image. Please do not include multiple images within one image. PENTAX Photo Gallery will protect each of your images with a watermark.
5. Photographs submitted to the Gallery must be shot by a PENTAX SLR.
6. Photographs should not be overly manipulated with filters and effects. Some dodging and burning to reveal an image is allowed, however, it is not acceptable to move around pixels or add or remove elements. Cropping is allowed.
7. Submit only your own work.
8. Do not upload photos that are abusive, deceptive, pornographic, obscene, defamatory, slanderous, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.
9. The PENTAX Photo Gallery does not currently support photos with non-standard aspect ratios (eg. panoramic photos).
Note #1. It's better to submit slightly oversized photos rather than undersized ones. If it's under 600 pixels high it is rejected very quickly... I size mine at 605-by-whatever...

Note #5. It says "Pentax SLR", but no longer states that a Pentax Lens must be used. If you submit something taken with a non-Pentax lens simply select "unknown" for the lens type.

Best of luck.

I'll join in - you can find my four here: PENTAX Photo Gallery

I haven't submitted anything since they started the voting, mostly because I haven't been shooting much lately, but it seems to be so much more difficult to get in now that I'd have to have something really wonderful to submit. I doubt that these would get in now. Oh well, I can still brag about having them in!

My birds and beasts

(and the odd plant) are here:

Many of them were tested out on the forum members here for input before submitting.

finally out of limbo and in the gallery. its odd, but the one shot i considered a bit of a oddity or gimmick was one that got in...the reflection in the owl eye.

other is an abstract i shot in front of my house of flames on a van....again sort of an off hand shot.

go figure.

First off, congratulations on getting into the gallery. Now that the wait is over, you'll know what to expect the next time you submit some pics. Second, I can totally sympathize with what you're saying about your owl shot. (It's a great shot, btw.) The first time I ever submitted some photos for publication, I pulled out what I thought were my best slides and put them into some plastic sheets. The only problem was that I was one slide short of having both sheets filled. I didn't want to leave a blank spot, so I reached into the pile of pics that I had rejected and put one in the empty slot. I had initially eliminated it because I had used multiple graduated ND filters and it seemed like too obvious of a "trick". Sure enough, THAT was the pic that got used most by the magazine where I'd submitted my pics.

I think you have something there TaoMaas. The shots I've taken that I like the most are not the ones that others and clients have liked best. I had one job that the contract said I had to provide a contact sheet of everything taken. They were to choose the shots they wanted for the company brochure. The one they liked the best (and I hated) was on the cover. Funny thing was when they were negotiating the price on that shot, they took my body language as holding out for more money and offered me about 4x what I expected.

So I never throw out any negatives or digital files any more. I might be able to shoot 'em but I can't pick them. It's like the discussion on Bokeh or something. We all know what to look for but the casual observer doesn't look for it or see it. So I figure the observer is looking for things we often don't recognize and we notice the technical aspects (maybe too much).

So after 30+ submissions I have 2, one I like and one I was just playing around with a new macro lens.
