Barred Owl
Lens: D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR Camera: K20D Photo Location: Highbanks Park, Franklin County, Ohio ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F5

My first photo of an owl, unfortunately I didn't have a long lens with me, fortunately I did have the D FA100.

Thanks, but I had a tip, about a half mile up the trail a guy told me where it was and what the tree looked like. Without that information I would have never spotted him. I had to stare a bit for him to come into focus, once he moved his head it was easier. On these two shots he is leaning out to watch me.

You usually need good tips to catch owls--or else be their neighbors...

Excellent eye - I have a somewhat similiar shot I had no idea owls could be so well hidden is that much of a crop ?

Congrats on your daytime close encounter with a majestic bird, and on the great captures!

I hear barred owls very often; they can kick up an amazing racket. But I only see one once in a great while.

Thanks for all the nice comments everybody. Yes Dave, it's cropped a bit, below is the first shot uncropped, I hope to be able to go back and catch this Owl again with my 55-300:
