I brought the VL 58mm with me for the first time on a field trip with a European friend visiting me in Montreal. I found the K5+VL 58/1.4 pairing to be a lot of fun to use and in both nature, macro and portraiture work, it performed very well.
1. Poisonous frog, Biodôme of Montréal - 58mm f/2.5 1/20s ISO400
That was shot through glass so it was difficult to get tack sharp pictures (and the buggers move!) but I was impressed with color rendition, but especially the super smooth bookeh
2. Butterfly at the Montréal Botanical Gardens - 58mm f/1.4 1/250s ISO100
Butterflies were free and flying everywhere, I had about three seconds to get the shot (and with MF glass) so while composition isn't great, I was mightily impressed by the smooth focusing ring on the lens, which allowed me to get good sharpness even wide open.
3. Montréal Olympic Stadium - 58mm f/4 1/5000s ISO400
The VL 58/1.4 performed admirably for the occasional candid or portraiture work, and even served as a wide angle lens in this case
I am very happy about my purchase, I am glad I listened to the advice I was given on these forums and acquired it when I had the chance!
