First Anniversary (Part 5)

Extreme Gondola
Attachment 8931

There are a couple Venetian Islands which were briefly visited, each with their own distinct character.
Looking through my shots, am struggling to find anything worthwhile - certainly nothing which do the inhabitants justice.
The following three are what am finding to be the bests shots managed of one of the islands.

Kit Lens at 18mm, Camera Mode Auto
ISO 200: 1/125 sec @ f8

Canal Lifestyle
Attachment 8941

Kit Lens at 24mm, Camera Mode Auto
ISO 200: 1/250 sec @ f11

Casa Buranese
Attachment 8929

Kit Lens at 43mm, Camera Mode Auto
ISO 200: 1/250 sec @ f8

Burano Weave
Attachment 8930

Does anyone think there's anything worthwhile here, or anything that can be salvaged?
Comments, Advice, C+C invited and valued. Thanks in advance.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. These are great pictures and I am sure they still stir up many memories of your time there. I like the second shot with all the multi coloured homes; it reminds me of St. John, Newfoundland.

Thanks for sharing.

As J.Scott says John, there's nothing wrong with these pictures. Again it is all down to what you want from an image. I like the dynamism of 1. I think what is a good picture could be a great picture if you were closer in to the boat and its action. I often take shots where I go too wide/include too much and this reminds me of them. It may be interesting to try some cropping. As an observer who wasn't on the holiday I am drawn to the action on the boat in 2 BUT focusing on that would lose some of the scene and the memory which is often as important, if not more so at times, as creative content. 3 has interesting colours and some nice reflections. 4 is an interesting study. There doesn't seem to be much colour in it but IMO given the nature of the subject that doesn't matter and it probably makes it work even better.

2nd and 3rd take me back 12years like it was yesterday... that's when I visited and those pics sum it up perfectly!

Thanks again everyone for your feedback and advice.

Paul, have attached a crop attempt and the fisherman in original colour for comparison.

Looks like kamakazi gondaling to me!

Great shots John. The multi-coloured houses look great and B&W conversion works well

John, now I can compare I prefer the original versions of both. Crop looks good but I think I prefer the composition of the original gondola one. I thought going in closer may have added value eg: seeing the expressions on the rowers' (or whatever the correct godola term is) faces, but they are in shadow. In the second I think the BW conversion works nicely.
