Takin' it to the streets - Part 4: Wall Street
Posted By: maxwell1295, 09-30-2008, 08:46 PM

This is a contuation of Part 3 (both series were shot during the same walk). My wife works in the Wall Street area, right around the corner from the New York Stock Exchange. Since I got down there a little early, I told her we would meet at the George Washington statue across the street from the NYSE.

As I approched, I took a shot of the NYSE building from this angle

Since I was out all day, I didn't know anything about yesterday's market drop so I was a little puzzled when I got closer and saw all the madness. There were cameras and reporters everywhere.

We even saw our favorite local reporter, Linda Schmitt from Fox5NY...

It was complete pandemonium, so much that many of the bystanders didn't know what was happening, but it didn't stop them from pulling out the camera phones.

There were some interesting characters there. Attention seekers always head to where the action is.

This guy was denouncing the treatment of Muslims by US troops

This guy was also trying to get some attention. Since I wasn't a pro photog, I'm probably the only person to get a shot of him. Everybody else ignored him like he wasn't even there...

And this guy....well, ummm.....I have no idea.

A couple more random shots...

Many thanks to our roving reporter, Maxwell1295.

There's a popular word in England, starts with W and sounds like banker, I think it's quite appropriate at the moment.

crazy ...crazy as hell ...pandimonium ! Nice story Alan - Will bank for food - gotta give points for originality. It's like standing at a busy street corner and looking up at the sky - eventually you will have a crowd looking up - although the market crash was pretty real - just took my retirement plan to 3 years after death now

Human folly, at least when it backfires, makes for interesting street photography. Your photos put faces to the soundbites. Thanks for sharing your walk.

Must have been like feeding time at the zoo. Some great photos Alan...like the POV. Bring on "Takin' it to the streets" Part 5.

Thanks for the comments. I keep going back to #13....I think it was the best photo I'd taken that day although I probably could've cropped a little off both sides of the frame. He was interesting to say the least.

The highlight was seeing Linda Schmidt in person. For anyone who's seen her on Fox5 here in NY, you know she a real pitbull when it comes to getting the story. Not a shy woman at all. A grizzled veteran and pretty aggressive reporter, but still very sweet when we spoke to her.

#8 made me wonder what ol' George would think about that scene..

Excellent reportage, and a fine set of photos. I've spent more years than I ever expected around there.

Looks like he's constipated.

Nice shots. I'm going to be in New Jersey this weekend and I always try and get into NYC for an afternoon. I love going to NYC and experiencing the controlled chaos of so many people. NYC has to be my favourite US City to visit.

Did anyone jump while you were there?

Great shots, Maxwell. Sharp as a tack and perfectly exposed 'Johnny on the spot!'
