Jupiter 9 as macro lens? !
Posted By: Igilligan, 10-24-2008, 07:58 PM

To say that I am pleasantly surprised by this lens is an understatement. I tried it the first day I had it with the Sony 3358 macro adaptor.

And today I put the Raynox 250 on it to see how it did... I like the look of these shots....
Tell me what you think?

Those almost make me want to lay down the bucks for the Raynox. I put my Hoya 4+ on the J-9 for a couple of shots, but the results are nowhere near your great shots.

LZOS Jupiter-9 85/2 Hoya 4+ aux close-up filter

I think I may stick the J-9 on the bellows...

This is a Jupiter-9

PentaxForums.com Third-Party Lens Review Database - MC Jupiter-9 85/2

Up until a few weeks ago, the J-9 was the bargain king of cheap glass at about $135 USD...a cult classic with superb bokeh, great sharpness below f/4, and wonderful color rendition. Unfortunately, the price has recently gone up to about $250 USD for new with the used market following in step. That is a little steep for a pre-set lens with fairly ponderous handling characteristics and questionable quality from the factory.

Steve

(BTW...it is my favorite lens...)

Raynox and Jupiter are great. Need to try them out

I recently got the Jupiter 9 and love it for portraits.

I got good results with Raynox 250 coupled with the DA 50-200. A zoom gives good options for depth of field.

Here are pics from this combination

Wow, Gus, that's simply stunning. Had no idea that combo could produce results
like that. Truly great job. Now you have a superb macro lens in addition to
an artistic lens and a portrait lens.

Makes me wish I wasn't mailing this baby to Gary this afternoon:

Ditto!
I want to try one of those on my 55-300. It would probably work well on my 28-75, too.

For anybody who wants to order one, Adorama has free shipping on theirs.
DCR250 Raynox DCR-250, Macro-Scan 2.5x Super Macro Conversion Lens, with Snap-on Universal Mount for 52mm to 67mm Filter Diameters.
