Wow, was he in your garden Dan? Don't know anything about those guys but he looks pretty big from your shots.

This dragon lives in the Brisbane City Botanic Garden. It's fairly big and heavy. It must find plenty to eat.

Dan, your friend has a cousin down here in the Botanic Gardens in Canberra. Lens = Schneider-Kreuznach 360/5.5 in M42 mount.

Wow, you spot that in your garden. I would love to visit Brisbane again. I heard that there is a birding place called Rott Weiler or something?

Dazman, this is not a zoo. It is a public park/garden. The Eastern Water Dragon is indigenous to the area. I've seen them here (the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens), in the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and in the creek near my house (not for swimming - for stormwater runoff).
