A few from the Veterans Day Parade
Posted By: Igilligan, 11-12-2008, 05:52 PM

I took my two daughters down to the Veterans Day Parade. I just grabbed the 50-200 and stuck it on the camera. With both girls I had no real time or opertunity to do much shooting. So here are some snaps... It was overcast so I probably could have got away with the tamy 70-300, but the 50-200 always works in a pinch...

Whenever you have clowns... you got to have pooper scoopers
you just can't risk it with clowns...

My heartfelt thank you to our Vets

Without them, my world is a very different place

Very nice series. Thanks for sharing. The looks on those scouts' faces are precious.

Thank you for the nice words of support... It was my youngest daughters first Parade and she almost broke her arm waving at everyone in the parade... The oldest was over it before we even arrived. And of course neither one would let me take their pictures...

I keep thinking I want to upgrade camera and lenses, but at this point if they continue to refuse my modeling requests... and I am just taking pics of flowers and coke cans... why bother

Nice series Gus. The expression on that scout's face is indeed priceless!

Thanks Mike

Those clowns can be just plain nasty....

I wonder if you get a Special Merit Badge for volunteering for this pooper scooper duty?
Or if they are being punished for coming in last in the Pine Wood Derby race?

You have an excellent eye, Gus. For some reason I keep coming back to your second image of the b-w marching cadets(?). So vivid.

Hey JMR

Thanks for the comments.

I am not sure why that one popped like that in B&W... In color it was a tad too bright.
I was not even going to work on it. But I had been doing some simple conversion on the others so tried that one.
I do like how it came out. It has a very different look than the others.

Have you noticed that the shot of the beautiful little girl in the middle is soft on her face? It looks like the focus went on the flag behind her. That's one reason I use manual focus most of the time.

I like the B&W shots a little better too... I tried that fake film grain on the first on with the older vets, I am not sure if it worked...

Missed focus or a subtle yet scathing....

JMR I did notice it, but I like to see it as a subtle, yet scathing attack on the 'focus' of the two political machines during the presidential election. With more focus on the flag and symbolism, than on the future of our children.
I know deep down that I chose that flag behind her as the focus point to let the world know that something is wrong with a system that forces candidates to speak in broad generalities, and spend their time and energy focusing on what not to say so they dont blow a 2 point lead in the polls, instead of just speaking the truth...

Either that or that flag was just larger and way more contrasty than her blond hair and pale skin...

ps I actually hit focus on the next shot but her little flag was covering most of her face... I guess that could have been a political statement too....
