...and winter has only begun. This is the first time that I've been to the butterfly garden during the winter and while there weren't as many flowers blooming as usual, it was still nice in there (I was wearing a short sleeve shirt and jeans). While I was there, I went on ahead and bought myself the annual pass so I can go all I want.

In April, I'm planning on going to the Spring Photo Workshop at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, as well as catching a little bit of the Spring Wildflower pilgrimage and doing some day hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so this lens is going to get a workout while I'm there.

Like the first image, shooting at diagonal was a good idea. Also something quite alluring about that blue butterfly/moth(?) at the end.

Very nice series Heather. Macro lenses usually take some practice and a learning curve to get used to. Seems you have gotten a very good handle on this one quickly.

I really like the 3rd shot, well done. The 4th is the best IMO except for the orange leaves in the lower left are a distraction. The mix of colours, bokeh and sharpness in that shot are great.

Great series here. I have never seen the butterfly in the 2nd pic. Good colour and bokeh there.

Very nice shots Heather--thanks. Is that butterfly in the second shot actually real?

Great shots, Heather. Your butterfly shots remind me of warmer times. Audiobomer (Dan) and I recently visited our science center and spent some time in the butterfly exhibit. Dan used his DA 100mm macro and if persuaded may share some of his images.

Thanks for sharing.

They were all real. The only thing I can figure is that particular type is less skittish than some of the others, as there were many of them hanging out like that.

Heather
Impressive shots. I have not seen much photos from that lens yet, more so from its ancestors the FA/F/A versions. The bokeh looks great. I especially like number 2 for its composition, colors, bokeh etc. I must ask, is that butterfly green against a green background or transparent???
