Macro with Marc Langille :) (5 images)
Posted By: sajmmiller, 04-25-2009, 12:35 PM

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Marc Langille at our local botanical gardens this morning. He not only shared some great information and tips, but he also put his FA* 200mm F/4 macro on my K10D and said "go have fun"! I was a bit nervous about using such a special and irreplaceable lens, but I did have fun. Thank you for being so gracious Marc!

The lens is amazing. The color, constrast, sharpness bokeh, and narrow FOV take macro to another level. The detail and sharpness at full size is wonderful. It was a bit windy this morning, and, of course, the lens is not as good in my hands as Marc's, so keep that in mind when viewing the following photos:

Marc, I think you've fueled my LBA in an expensive way! Thanks again, I think!

Marc, when you come to shoot the safari here in Romania, look me up.

You are one lucky person, Scott. Fourth shot is my favourite. I love the colours and super-smooth bokeh.

My goodness, I thought the 100mm macro turned out decent images, those are marvelous. 3rd is definitely my favourite. Great stuff!

Wow, #2 is the definition of brutally sharp. Looks like it didn't take you lot to get into the groove with this lens.

So when are you getting yours?

Hey Scott,

Glad you had fun with it. I was for the most part busy with the field trip students so I might have taken a few shots, but I thought you'd enjoy seeing what the possibilities are with 200mm. The scary part about that lens? You are only touching the surface of it's capabilities - you learn things about it as time goes on. That focal length definitely has it's own "personality" in terms of FOV, etc.

I'm about to get back to doing some more macro shooting - it's been a while for me!

Cheers,
Marc

I am sensing a conspiracy on my FA* lenses...

No worries Jim - if you're in the neighbourhood, look me up!
