Stargazer Lily - more M50 reverse ring macro
Posted By: mikeSF, 05-11-2009, 10:55 PM

Inspired by Carie's magnificent tulip photos ( https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/59485-just-few-tulips-pu...t-big-mac.html ), i set my sights on some lovely mothers' day stargazer lilies in the house and reversed my M50 1.7 lens for some macro action. #1-4 shot at f/16 with window light. #5 was f/2 i think. Hope you like these.

It's a shame my M50's filter ring is buggered, because I'd love to try this. These look great.

Beautiful, strange landscapes. Now I need to add a reverse ring to the shopping list...

dave, frank, kevin, thomas, thanks very much for looking and leaving comments; it is appreciated!
the reverse ring is well worth the ~$13 (approx USD) investment if one has no other means of achieving macro (dedicated lens, macro tubes, bellows, close up filters, etc). The biggest limitation is that focusing occurs by moving the whole camera closer to or further from the subject, which is a huge challenge for nailing focus, especially which such thin DOF in play. if handholding the camera, this could mean the difference between inhaling and exhaling, etc.

i have also tried reversing all of my other lenses and could not make any others get focus while reversed. i am not complaining about the nifty 50, however, it does a surprisingly good job!

These aren't your typical flower shots--very well done as usual.

Wow- those are ridiculously sharp. I'm particularly drawn to #1 for the dof, and #3 for the shapes and texture. nice work!
