"Sugar magnolia, blossoms blooming..."
Posted By: NaClH2O, 04-29-2007, 07:48 PM

Well I'm a little over halfway finished processing the shots I took last weekend at the Botanical Gardens. This threads all about the magnolia grove they have there.
All shots taken with my trusty DS.

As you come up the hill and around a bend you see the grove in front of you.
Zenitar 16mm fisheye 1/350, aperture unknown

Lots and lots and lots of flowers. Pentax FA 50mm 1.4 f22 at 1/90

Some individuals:
An emerging bud. FA 50mm 1.4 f4 at 1/1000

Getting ready to open up fully. Tamron 90mm macro f13 at 1/60

Like the bokeh on this one. Tamron 90mm macro f6.7 at 1/750

My favorite individual flower, this one reminds me a bit of Georgia Okeefe's work. Tamron 90mm macro f9.5 at 1/180

Finally a look back from up the hill. Zenitar 16mm fisheye 1/750 aperture unknown

Thanks for looking!

Ahhhhh, what beauty!

Hi Salty!

As I told RoscoT(Alan) once, the Japanese Magnolia is one of my most favorite flowers. You've shown why. The range of colors in a single blossom is so varied and rich.

But, I have to say that my favorite of this group is the one you chose - the star magnolia (next to last). That one looks like a painting! Very nice!

Much better than that ever favorite dinosaur of the south, the Southern Magnolia, with its ugly green leaves. Not much of a Magnolia fan here.

But still nice.

Excellent. I Like your favorite and the two flower shots directly above it. Wonderfully colorful and very sharp work.
I was at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Saturday. See my shots under "Botanical Garden...." . In fact, I'll attach another couple here. Freddy

WOW, NaClH2O these are just great. The first one looks like one of those HDR shots. Looks like the temps are getting warm in NY.

Thanks Freddy, nice exposures, love the soft look of the middle one, it just says "warm spring day" to me. And the bokeh on the last magnolia is very nice, like how you managed to capture it against the dark green background.

Thanks Ben, coming from you that's high praise indeed! And I have to say that everytime I see one of your stunning images, I think the exact same thing!

Beautiful, as always my friend. Your macro work with the Tamron continues to impress me. I need a tripod for this sort of stuff (too much high livin' back when?).

Nice pictures NaClH2O, beautiful. I think the "emerging bud" pic is my favorite:-). What a great shot.
I think I need one of those wide angle lenses, also!

Thanks to everybody for their praise. I'd be "properly modest" and say some sort of bs, but to be truthful, I LOVE IT!!!! So keep it coming...and thanks, I am glad you liked the shots, I certainly had fun making them, and that's the most important part
