2300 Volts and a Dummy
Posted By: J.Scott, 07-06-2009, 04:00 PM

I snapped a few images while working in a generating station this afternoon.
It was extremely noisy in this room.
Powered by falling water this hydro electric generator can crank out 2300 Volts at peak capacity.
This unit has been operating since the 1930's.

A perfect opportunity to try out the wide-angle effect of my newly acquired Voigtlander lens.

K10D , Voigtlander Skopar 20mm

I found this lazy lout asleep on the job!
What a dummy!

haha, love the shot of the dummy.

It's insane how much coal, gas, and oil they can burn through in an hour. Visited a Generating Station in Maryland for an environmental geology class, interesting stuff huh?

It is near Coniston.

This one isn't burning anything; the energy is created by water channeled through a chute.
Was originally established long ago to service the mines in the area, now it is just 'on the grid'.

The dummy was a bonus shot. I stepped behind the turbine and saw a leg sticking out of a trunk. I just couldn't resist!
