Luminous Jellyfish
Posted By: MRRiley, 08-05-2009, 06:59 PM

Shot this at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN this past Sunday. Naturally the lighting was abysmally dim so I had to shoot at ISO 1600. Have to say that the K20D performed up to the challenge.

K20D, Pentax SMC-A 50mm f1.7, f2.8 ay 1/100sec, ISO 1600

Wish the bright bottom edge had not blown out but I couldn't even pull it out in the RAW file.

More to come after we get back home from this trip...

Mike

Nice job on the Jelly! I got lucky and got a keeper on my first try but haven't shot another worth a damn since... Once I encounter another I'll try it again

Lovely shot of the jellyfish; lighting can be extremely fickle depending on how the aquarium sets it up.

I love going to the Vancouver Aquarium and standing in front of the jellyfish display chasing the slow moving ones with a lens trying to get that "perfect" shot as well!

I have no problems with the blown highlight you speak of. This is an excellent shot Mike. My son loves it too.

Thanks Scott... yeah, the lighting sucks... LOL

Thanks Pat... The glass is almost as bad as the light. I had to keep wiping fingerprints off with a small towel...

I actually lived in Chattanooga for a few years, still hold it as my permanent residence.

I know very well of the dim light you speak of. That has to be the darkest room in that place. Out of curiosity, did you get any good shots up in the butterfly garden?

Nice shot.

Thanks JG... I got few shots in the butterfly garden but nothing overly exciting.

Thanks Jim.
