I strobed my car
Posted By: F-Stop, 09-16-2009, 01:08 AM

Great nite out, probably the last warm one of the Summer here in NL, I figured I'd give this a try after seeing a lot of great photos taken by my friend during the Targa event taking place here now: Stillen Targa Nissan GT-R on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

CC Welcome, first attempt at blending layers with Gimp, 5 shots taken in total:

2 Metz 48's @ 24mm 1/1power; 200iso 1/125sec f/8.0. Taken with 301P wireless trigger+receiver
1 shot w/metz at left side highlighting wheels + metz at right corner to highlight left lights and grill
1 shot from left front corner to highlight right headlight
1 shot on hood on right
1 shot inside (1/2 power)
1 shot left rear 1/4

Not bad at all...
Light work should be commended.
It's a good result.
Well done.

Lighting

I like the way the light is picked up in the interior.

Thanks guys!

Like I said, it's my first attempt at multiple exposures and flash, would have thought someone would have picked it apart, haha. The interior shot turned out cool I think. It's not perfect to me, could use a few more pops of detail here and there and a better canvas/location to be shooting on. I have to say it was much easier than I thought, especially at blending the layers with GIMP.

maybe it would be interesting to try light painting the car, ie set the camera on bulb and the flash on manual and walk around the car and pop the flash manually. seem to remember seeing a car shot done that way to good effect before

I would have left it on Bulb or longer shutter like you said but there were houses in the background in the distance plus a street light to the left behind me up near the road infront of my house/apartment. Then, on the right side of the car where the driver side mirror is there's a cut off telephone pole where a clothesline was attached... the backgrounds was less than pleasing.

Luckily the Targa rally event just ended here Friday and I managed to practice on a Nissan GT-R Stillen edition

I was a little pissed I left my wireless remote and triggers home as I could have pulled off the same thing...
