Can you Identify?
Lens: 300mm Macro Camera: K100D Photo Location: Back Yard ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F11

I searched Cornell's online bird book but couldn't find anything about this bird. I thought it was a sparrow but because of the yellow spot on the back, I saw none with a yellow spot.

that is tough, maybe an immature yellow-rumped warbler? Is that in FLA?

I'd never have a clue, but I like this shot a great deal. Note how the bird almost - but not quite - blends into the background, but re-emerges when your eye catches the contrasting small slash of yellow.

Great job.

I would agree, my books show florida as part of the wintring range

he looks a little longer and leaner than my shots or those depicted in my books, but overall the description fits

Yes, this is in Florida in my backyard.

Tom and Lowell, I think it's the adult male yellow rumped Warbler. The immature male is more grayish and squater than the adult male. The only photo Cornell shows. is the male in flight so it's hard to tell what type of body he has, though he looks leaner.

Here's the link to the one at Cornell:
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Identification, All About Birds - Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Jer thanks for the comments and compliment on the shot. He was hard to see but I knew he was there because I saw something flitting about on top of our Persimmon tree. I just picked up my camera and aimed it at this thing and there he was. I took several shots but this is the best of the bunch.

dcmsox2004, I went to that site but it said something about installing a toolbar and I do not install toolbars on my computer. But thanks for trying anyway.

Sure looks like a Yellow-rumped warbler (aka Myrtle warbler) to me. They were pretty much everywhere when I lived in SC. And there's lots of variation . . . just when you think you've spotted something different, you realize it's yet another Yellow-rumped.

Cool birds, though!

Since I've never seen this bird, it was new to me. I'm glad I got to see it and was able to capture it too.

We have a lot of lichens around here. Glad you liked looking at ours grey goat.

I just uploaded it to PPG. Keeping my fingers crossed it makes it in. Took me three tries to get it uploaded. First time it was declined because the height was too little, then the EXIF data was not showing up. I wasn't saving from the original so had to go save and resize from the original photo then it finally was accepted. I tried this once before on another photo and never could get that one right and finally gave up.

Thanks Jan for the nice compliment. I actually got four shots of this little guy before he flew off. I have not seen him again since that day.
