Asahi Spotmatic using a flash

The first and most important thing is to use the "x" setting, usually between the 30th and 60th speeds, it is on my Sv, this will ensure you don't get the focal plane shutting off part of the film plane and the resulting cut-off. Then its a simple matter of adjusting apature to distance taking into account the film speed. Flashguns often have some sort of scale on them. If not start by taking a picture at about two metres / yards using the small aperture (probably f16) then open up one stop for every good pace further away you are. This is a pretty good rule-of-thumb for small electronic flashguns of the period. Adjust thereafter by experience, learn and good luck.:)

I have just purchased, via e-bay, a Tamron AF Aspherical LD (IF) 28-300 for use with my Pentax cameras. I live in the U.K. and the lens came from the U.S.A. It is a 72mm filter size. The equivalent European lens has a 62mm filter and differs in appearance. This is not a great problem but I can only find the Euro User Manual on line. Most things I can figure out, no problem but a couple of issues intrigue me.

1) There is a little inverted triangle mark slightly to the left of the Diamond shaped mark for setting "A" or the aperture. It's a bit like the offset infra-red focus mark often found on manual lenses but it is in totally the wrong place for that. What does it signify ??

2) I feel I am not getting the best out of the "Macro" facility, am I missing a trick somewhere, any advice or a link to the U.S. user manual would be most appreciated.

Cheers.

Hello, I was a pro photographer in the 1960s and 70s before anyone ever heard of photoshop, digital, AF etc,. I trained with 5x4 glass plate cameras (Bloody heavy, you made every shot count) before being let loose with a Rolleiflex, at the end of my photographic career I was using Pentax 35mm kit along with a lot of other kit. I have maintained an interest and have a number of digital cameras including two Pentax DSLRs and a number of lenses (Pentax and Tamron) which I am trying to get the best out of. I have no doubt I will be asking for advice on using these lenses. Doubtless I can contribute for anyone wanting advice about "old time" kit.
