Stuck advance lever on Ricoh 500G

Happens with my 500G too sometimes. When it’s stuck open, I gently pull the lever even further open and it comes back to the closed position. If it’s stuck in the closed position, tripping the shutter usually solves that. Good luck.

Wide angle for internal room shots for website

I agree with you, but autofocus is still superfluous.

If the optimal setting is below the hyperfocal distance in a given use case, then use the distance scale on the lens to manually set the lens focus to cover the depth you need at a given aperture.

The best practice is to turn off your autofocus (if equipped with it) and manually check focus using the scale for critical shots.

I think that autofocus on ultra wide angle lenses is a superfluous feature. They already have a very deep depth of field. Set the lens to the hyperfocal distance for a given aperture using the scale and you’re set with everything in focus.

I use the Rokinon (Samyang) 10mm on my K-5 and K-01. It’s sharp wide open with minimal chromatic aberration. Here’s a photo I took yesterday in low light, handheld at f/2.8.

I would rate it at 100 or 125 and develop normally even if it wasn’t expired.

Pentax Super Program Film Rewind Button Issue

Solved the issue! Just needed to advance the film advance lever a bit beyond its usual distance and it latched, returned to its resting position, and the film rewind button popped back out.

Pentax Super Program Film Rewind Button Issue

Hi Everyone,

I think my Super Program may have bit the dust. I finished a roll, pressed the film rewind button, rewound the film but didn’t pop open the back door to remove the film until many hours later.

Unfortunately, I’ve just noticed that the film rewind button didn’t pop back out when I finally popped open the back door and the film advance lever no longer “catches” the take-up spool to advance it.

I’ve tried gently moving the little spool with the teeth back and forth to coax the button back out to no avail. I’ve also removed the bottom plate to try to gently prod the button back out, but no luck.

Is there anything that I’m missing or is my trusty Super Program a dead soldier?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have, or for telling me straight that it’s a lost cause.

Pentax 645 longevity

I have both a Yashica 635 TLR and an original Pentax 645 and use them both. Both are built like tanks, with the 645 conceived to be put through its paces by wedding photographers and the like. Don’t expect to be discreet with the 645, as the camera is big and the shutter sound is very loud.

I’m happy to own mine.

Old manual glass (K50/1.2) on K-3III

I have the O-ME53 installed on my K5 and have found it to be very helpful in focusing my lenses manually.

I am considering upgrading to a K3III and have wondered whether the reengineered and improved viewfinder makes the O-ME53 unnecessary or even if the O-ME53 can take away from the brightness and other improvements of the K3III’s viewfinder.

What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, we are. One of the problems with them is that the canopy is far too dense for understory growth, thereby preventing other forms of flora from thriving.

My nifty Ricoh 500G is testament to the fact that Ricoh made rangefinders, though.

What I’d love to see is a digital Pentax SuperA/SuperProgram SLR. Pare it down to the basics with 24x36 sensor and no IBIS if it doesn’t fit.

I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

The KP did not render a sharper image. The focus points are different. Compare the base of the bottle and note that the K70 is sharper at that point.

I’ve run a few tests with some 16 Mp files from my K-5 and the resulting 64 Mp DNG files that ACR creates are very impressive.

Development status of APS-C flagship digital SLR camera "PENTAX K-3 Mark III" (2nd report)

Thank you for your continued patronage of our products.
We would like to inform you of the current development progress of the APS-C flagship digital SLR camera "PENTAX K-3 Mark III" whose development status and product name were announced on October 27, 2020.

Aiming to be released around the time of the world premiere show "CP + 2021" (held as CP + 2021 online this year) of cameras and photographic images scheduled to be held from February 25 to 28, 2021 at the time of the previous announcement I was informed that it was under development. However, due to the delay in procuring some parts and the judgment that it will take some time to achieve high performance and high quality suitable for the APS-C flagship model, we have decided to release it. I decided to change it.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for the official announcement and release, and thank you for your understanding.

Product name: PENTAX K-3 Mark III

Scheduled release date before change: Under development aiming for the world premiere show "CP + 2021" (Pacifico Yokohama) of cameras and photographic images scheduled to be held from February 25 to 28, 2021
Release after change Schedule (current outlook): We will inform you again in the near future.

Is there any Pentax film camera body which works with the new lenses?

Here’s a shot taken on Kodak Portra 160 (metered at 125) with a Pentax MZ-10 and the DA 10-17 Fisheye. The lens has no aperture ring so the camera goes into shutter priority made when set to M with such a lens.

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a DIY attempt at repairing the stuck shutter curtain on my Pentax MZ-10 film SLR?

Here’s a link to a short video I took illustrating the problem.

Improved images when using my vintage lenses is one of the considerations.

How does the size and weight of a K-1 alone compare to a K-5 plus second battery grip (which is my setup)?

Right on. I’ll assess the new APS-C flagship if and when it is released, though I’m thinking that I’d like to have one 24x36mm DSLR (I’ve always hated the term “full frame”) and my K-01 as my APS-C camera.

In the meantime, I’m appreciating the full image circle projections of all my legacy Pentax glass by shooting 35mm film with my Pentax SuperProgram.

I’m also shooting medium format with and old Yashica 635 TLR and a brilliant Mamiya Six Automat folder rangefinder.

You may be right that I don’t actually need a larger format.

I had actually considered the 24MP a7II as it’s been seeking for CAD1,300 of late, but have decided against it because I don’t feel like adapting all of my Pentax glass.

As far as the ergonomics of the K5 go, to me it’s the camera perfected. It love it so much that it must be a significant part of my hesitation to part with it.

Not validation but the (probably vain) hope that a Ricoh engineer or marketing person reads this. 😉

And I’d probably go for something like that!

Exactly! Not full frame and doesn’t have the DLi90 battery, unless I get the grip. Truth be told, I would have probably bought the KP had the design engineers figured out a way to jam the DLi90 in there.

I agree, they’ve been nicer-looking than other brands since the K-7, which I also owned. Didn’t think much of the K10D’s looks, which I also owned, but I did think the K20D was kind of cool. Never owned that one.

Nothing wrong with being motivated by nostalgia to revisit pleasing aesthetics cues.

I think that if I bought one, I’d be content with the two of the three amigos (31 and 77) my FA 50 1.4 and the legacy glass I have covering the wider and longer ends.

I have the SuperProgram which is awesome and super compact for a 35mm camera.
