thank you DIh for the feedback interesting on the Canon Products , i'm not privy to ether brand Nikon or Canon , i do know i need to put my eggs in other baskets , im not knocking Pentax , ok i am ... just this lens, so far , just seems to be many with the same issue ... ---------- Post added 09-20-20 at 12:21 AM ----------
thanks for the note Mike.P , my biggest fear is getting it back and not working correctly , I'll never spend that amount on camera equipment again with out extra warranty . ---------- Post added 09-20-20 at 12:35 AM ----------
Sorry for inducing nightmares disasterfilm , I have decided to go forward with repairs , when this comes back and works as it should , fingers crossed , it will be carried around as you have described , I carried it as i would a shot gun over my shoulder on a heavy peak design camera strap , the lens being heavy as it is I believe the lock for the lens barrel is not made to take the downward weight this lens carries , this is where my problem began , the lock not holding and finding my lens barrel fully retracted while walking / hiking .

Just an update for those that maybe interested , My Pentax 150 - 450 mm arrived at the Pentax Factory in Japan , with an estimated cost of $ 700.60 for parts / Labor , plus the $169 I've spent for shipping ... is it worth it ?? I'm told 6 month warranty on repair .

aslyfox absolutely too each there own . What I can and will say about my lens is that it was used , I carried it around attached to camera with a heavy strap , I’m firm on believing this is where my issue started. With the weight of the lens on the lock system causing it not to work anymore followed by the lens not closing fully , then the rear optics falling inside the lens. , that being said I don’t believe this lens was meant to be carried around this way. And only mounted on a tripod stationary. The $3000 I paid for this lens Canadian. Is a lot of money to me In my opinion this lens is definitely not a Work Horse , I wish there where serial numbers on these lenses to match with a manufacturer build date ,

jpzk I'm thinking the same now , switching to Nikon and purchasing a long lens new or a good used one for shooting wildlife , keeping what equip i have in Pentax , I was half considering picking up the pentax 300mm prime but that would kind of be going backwards after having the 450mm , think its time for me to jump ship , i feel so burnt on my 150 - 450 but i guess that could happen with any brand , my only advice to anyone considering the Pentax 150 - 450mm zoom , purchase lots of extra warranty with it . Havn't heard anything back on my lens repair , have sent out a few emails making inquiries , but so far only Crickets !!! ---------- Post added 09-14-20 at 02:20 AM ----------
yes sergysergy sent to Japan havent heard anything yet , just Crickets !!

hey sergysergy thanks for the comments , i'm not getting my hopes up , i'm thinking ill never see this lens again , i'm lost without it , thinking of purchasing the DA 300 mm , but may just invest into a Nikon Body and build a kit from there for shooting wildlife , so much more available with the other brands used and new

IS there anyone using the DA F4 300mm with there K 1 , wondering about the edges in the frame , Im sure i have read on here somewhere, which i can not find , that there is software in the K1 that will correct this ? my 150 to 450mm has gone to Japan for repair , who knows when i will hear back on it , im thinking about picking up this 300mm lens , I have a K3ii as well just wondering about the compatibility with the K 1 .
Many thanks in advance if you can help
Alan
