You've obviously never read "The Power of Non-Violence" or any other of the classics of the protest movements.
The woman involved played the classic role. Bring it out in the open. DO it in front of the cameras. Take the consequences. Fill the jails. They do expect consequences that are negative, and they will do that, because they have a point, because their cause is just. And the only way to advance that cause is through standing up in the middle of a road in the face of the police and getting your picture taken. The simple fact is too many innocent black lives have been taken by over aggressive police officers. There is currently nothing in the American political system that allows people to address that issue. The ridiculous and callous police defence tactics using public funds is indefensible to keep police officers from facing prosecution is indefensible. I don't care who you are, If you abuse your authority and take a life, you should go to jail. There are not enough police officers who have done just that in jail... The point is, to cause an over-reaction, to point out the insanity, like three guys thinking they need riot gear to approach an un-armed woman in a summer dress. The unbelievable thing is that they fell for it. They walked in and presented the protester with the photo-op. Because they are so myopic and heavy handed in their approach, that was all they could do.
Now all who uphold police violence against blacks are trying to spin the situation into something it wasn't.
Those officers were skillfully played. And the conservative outcry is from folks who were exposed for what they are. paranoid, reactionaries, with a lot of fire power and a complete lack of common sense or humanity. Next time send a couple plain clothes officers go out and say "would you come with us Ms. " She was no threat to anyone. The worst that could have happened is she might have had to be carried off.
Instead they sent a bunch of storm troopers out to confront her. Sorry man, No matter how you spin it, that's ridiculous.
The dudes got played.
Sometime all the mind games you guys play with yourselves keep you from seeing what happened.
The same dudes that are so paranoid they'll shoot a guy reaching for his I.D. 4 times in chest, are the dudes that will send police in riot gear to arrest arrest a woman in the middle of the street, in a summer dress. How does that mot show the world what they are dealing with?
It makes the point, to every one but a certain type pf American.
There needs to be some consequences for taking innocent lives that go beyond the slaps on the wrist being handed out right now. The police define how they do their jobs. Someone has to step in and say "this isn't right."
You can be sure when people are willing to give up their freedom and spend time in jail to make a point, something big is going on.

Promotional still from the long-lost Dr. Who episode, RISE OF THE BOKEH-MEN! As they marched through the streets of London, the world around them melted and dissolved into bubbles of light!
Or.... Maybe I just shot this with my old K100D and the craptacular Tokina SD 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 Macro.
