It is a gondola in Venice, photographed on a narrow canal which is why the reflections of buildings show at the top of the image.
The equivalent in London would have been a black cab, or a yellow one in New York, and the gondolier (cab driver) was nearby having a cigarette whilst waiting for his next customer.

I would also advise a second hand old-model Sigma 10-20 (I use mine with my K-5, and the adjustable angle of view would be helpful for your shots of interiors). Since you will presumably want maximum depth of field, you will be using F8 or F11 anyway, so the restricted maximum aperture of this lens will not be important.
This will be much better value than buying a new lens.

I upgraded from a K-10 to a K-5 some years ago, and have no plans to upgrade again. Its 16Mp Sony sensor is the K-5 is much better than the 10Mp Samsung sensor in the K-5 - not just for the increased resolution (16Mp) but for the much extended higher ISO performance. Also, the smaller K-5 body has a larger LCD panel and an ISO button on the top panel so that you can adjust the ISO setting without taking your eye from the viewfinder.
Regarding your lenses - the 15-30 is presumably a 'full frame' lens, and a Sigma 10-20 is an ideal replacement for use on an APS-C body like the K-10 and K-5. I have one of the old model ones, and in the UK these can now be found at great prices second hand. If funds permit, it might be worth looking for one of these too if you do a lot of landscape work. But do not buy a polarising filter to use on a 10-20 because at the wider end of the zoom the angle of view is too great for the polarising effect to work correctly. I use a circular ND graduated filter instead, for 99% of my shots.

I don't know how this effect happened - part of it is probably contrails from a passenger jets at high altitude, but the rest is a mystery.

Number 8. As well as being a very atmospheric shot, it's not a 'pay and display' shot requiring travel to exotic places and spending a lot of money to do so.

A man and his dog had recently walked by, but the shot looks better without them in it. The lens focal length was 10 mm.

Surely the life expectancy of a rechargeable battery is measured in the number of recharge cycles possible before it stops holding any charge, rather than in years?

I believe that this is the most creative shot here - if I had taken it I would have a framed print on display.

Just like I remember it.
The view from the top of the tower in the centre of the city is amazing too.

It's the unusual viewpoint that makes this shot stand out. The lighting is perfect.

Beautiful - and too good to hide away on your hard drive. It should be a large print and on display.

I have a K-5 and a secondhand Sigma 30 mm F 1.4, but only use it for stills.
It is probably the sharpest lens I own (certainly at F 4 - F 5.6), but the focus is critical when used at F 1.4 or F 1.8 because the depth of field for close subjects is very shallow.

It's unlike any of the other entries, and captures some of the character of the subject.
