K70 WiFI

Hmmm I guess I will check my phone settings....
I was not hoping to use the ImageSync for much in the way of photo transfers...
Just the occasional transfer to my phone to post on social media when I'm off in the middle of nowhere.
I'm kind of bummed it seems so clunky, though I think using it for remote control may come in handy.

If anyone familiar with using a the K70 WiFi?

My new baby came on Friday, so I'm trying to get it all figured out.
I got imagesync on my phone, I got it to connect to the camera,I got it be a remote shutter release etc.

Here is my problem/question..
I hook up, and can see my pictures...
I use the remote to take a few more...
Those do not show up on my phone.

If seems like I have to start all over,,,
Go into my camera settings and select Pentax as WiFi, turn the WiFi, open ImageSync again and then I can see my new pictures too.

Is this the normal mode of operation, or do I have it set up wrong?
Does the ImageSync program not automatically hook you phone to the Pentax WiFi if it is on?
Do you always need to restart everything to see new pictures?
Is there a way to use it to only access a set of pictures, rather than everything on your card... It seemed pretty quick with only a handful of photos on my card, but I suspect as my card fill it may be a long wait for them to populate ImageSync., it would nice to select by date or session or something...

Are there software alternatives that are better?

Oh and can a add a gripe... the manual that came with my camera... why such poor instructions on the WiFi.... they do after all tell me how to plug the charger into the wall.... they could give better instructions on the technical aspects of the camera!

(nothing new here... I have long been frustrated by software manuals/guides/books that explain at length 'how to use a mouse', then don't address the meaty issues worth crap... It's a pet peeve of mine!)

I bought the Hoya 62mm HMC Ultraviolet UV(C) Haze Filter MFR #A62UVC for the 18 - 135 and the K&F Concept Green Multi-Coated Schott B270 German Optics Slim UV Filter (58mm) MFR #KF01.026 for the 55-300. The lK&F claims 99.2% transmittance, not sure the Hoya is quite as good I think it said >97% (The K&F 62mm was out of stock) My head was sort of swimming trying to decide which was best...

Oh, that is interesting... thank you.
I will have to go through my pictures and see if the crappy photos correlate at all with aperture.
I'm feelling a bit dumb about this, as I was unhappy with my camera performance this summer but never took the time to really trouble shoot it as I should have (like I could have/should have compared exposures with this 18-200 with the misaligned 18-200 that it replaced!) Spent the summer in expreme busy mode.... full time job, another serious hobby (pottery!) during the week, then played weekend warrior travelling all over the west every weekend. (Winter is kinda the same, but replace camping with skiing) This is another reason I decided to stick with Pentax... I just don't feel I have the time or energy to learn a new system... I image the K-50 to K-70 transition won't be too bad.

---------- Post added 03-01-23 at 08:28 AM ----------

That's what I want to hear!
I suspect I *might* end up wishing I went for the K-3, though I suspect that moving up from a K-50 the 70 will seem just peachy!

I don't even have a camera bag... just a custom made (by me!) canvas bag that is big enough to hold my camera, binocs, water bottle, bird book... I call it my 'adventure bag'.

Thanks, and sorry i put it in the wrong place!

This is what I'm trying to figure out... Is my camera exposing incorrectly? While phone is getting it right? I'll swear my camera used to do better! I do have the .dng versions, but I have to say usually I'm pretty happy with my jpgs straight from the camera, so it was disappointing to not to get a nice picture with my camera (my baby doesn't like to get beaten by my phone!)

Sorry I was slow to get back to this.. but here are examples of my weird exposure issue.
2 camera shots 1st was aperature priority, 2nd was in auto mode, third picture was from my (not at all current or fance) I-phone.
The camera shots came out awful the phone much more like what I saw on that beautiful day, I'm not sure it the issue is my camera (K-50) lens (Tamron 18-50) or hazy skys that my phone deals better with. Hazy ucky washed out weird blue sky. Happened a lot this summer, The lens is new, bought on ebay (as they no longer make it) to replace one I screwed up. I've wondered if maybe there is something wrong with it (and that is why you can still find some on ebay) and that explains my issue. Or may maybe my camera is going wacko. Or it something about the weather. Or me?

Anyhow I decded to order the K-70, 55-300, 18-135 package from BH... so I'll have bright shiny new lens to try on my K-50. (and yeah, I should heve tried some comparisons with my 18-55 but never remembered to get it out of the closet)

Yeah, I don't really care for subscriptions, I'd rather just buy once. (and of course later again when there is a reason to unfortunately)
While I'm working, I can get adobe for free... but haven't been anxious to catalog my world in lightroom because I might not want to use it when it's no longer free. I'll have to look at those other programs.

Another to consider... an article I read the other day:

Hard to explain, maybe the issue is as you suggest that my phone is actually post processing better than my camera.
I have to admit to not being much of a post processor. I've sort of always been a 'try to get the best shot in camera' person, and, honestly I think Pentax does a great job producing nice JPG's in camera. But on these crappy/smoky/hazy days it seems my phone camera is doing a better job, which is kind of frustrating. So I'm not quite sure if it's the haze, me and my settings, or something about my camera being a little off.
Honestly, I really need to learn post processing (beyond super simple things)... that is something on my 'list'! (oh how I need to retire so I can work on the things on my 'list' - what's your favorite raw convertor?)
I shoot everying in JPG and RAW... so I do have the option of editing... someday...just have to find the time to learn to do it.

Another kind of weird question... regarding the difference between a K-50 and a K-70.
One thing I noticed and was frustrated by this summer....
Especially on the hazy, smoky days, there were a lot of days that I felt I was getting way better pictures with my phone camera (and not a fancy phone). Smoke season is definitely real in the west! To the point where I started wondering why I didn't just use my phone. (Obviously there are a lot reasons not to just use the phone, but I imagine you get my point). As I complained about this, my BF pointed out that phone cameras have come a long way, and that perhaps the DSLR camera technology has come a long way in the 7 years since I bought my K-50.

So will I see a big difference in this way between my K-50 and a K-70 or the K-3?

Wow... you guys are wonderful!
I appreciate all the advise...
Since I've been a little suspect of camera exposures I'd been considering updating ayway... I think you all convinced me that the K-70 is indeed an upgrade to my K-50... and I appreciate that you all haven't screamed that i can't be a serious photographer if I don't get a K1 or K3. (Or that I can't be serious with out constant upgrades to the latest and greatest)
Also appreciate all the suggestions of the DA55-300PLM I hadn't really thought much about a 300 and didn't know anything the PLM version, and it sounds like it is the much better choice and may do for a longer travel lens.

I have to say I have had concerns about the whole 'Pentax is dead' thing. Of course if I buy another one now I will have years of use, and if Pentax dies meanwhile then I can switch things up in the future.

I'm still wondering about the mirrorless and whether there is really any great advantage other than the body being less bulky and more light weight... (and that they are the rage)
Need to do more research. I do have a friend shooting very excellent bird photos with a Sony mirrorless which makes that tempting. (But yikes at quick look, pretty spendy!) On the other hand another serious bird photographer friend just switched to a mirrorless Canon... and I can't see (from all her online photos at least) that it seemed to up her game much. Plus she upgraded because her more high end Canon DSLR (which I don't think was as old as my K-50), died. That circles me back to Pentax because it always seems like they give more bang for the buck and have decent quality. (WS seems like a great idea in my dusty outdoor weather world)

So much to think about... Not sure when this trip will be... but if I'm to get new gear I need to do it sooner than later so I can practice with it. (another reason I'm a little reticent to switch brands - my old brain might not want to learn a new system.)

Thanks again for all the help. I'm happy for any and all advice!!

I have in the past toyed with getting a 300 mm lens... hoping a little more reach would make me happy... that might be a good compromise in the case of maybe not wanting to haul something as heavy as the 150 -450mm lens (that I also keep considering) across the world.

And yeah I was thinking about buying K70... but now I see there is KF to consider....though on quick lookie loo I'm not sure it seems too different.
I also consider splurging on a K1, as the one upscale feature that does really appeal to me is GPS. I suppose full frame is better?

Looking for thoughts on camera purchase advice.
I currently have a K50 with a Tamron 18-200 lens.
Most of my photography is nature/landscapes and interesting things I find while travelling.

For a the last few years I have been contemplating getting a longer lens for bird/animal photography, but it seems that for Pentax my lens choices are pretty limited and expensive, so I have been pretty conflicted about staying with Pentax or moving to another format. (I have considered getting a midrange Cannon with the not so expensive Sigma 150-600 as a second camera) Of course in the last few years mirrorless has become all the rage, which has just added to my decision paralysis.

This last year I have gotten the feeling that my K50 isn't alway metering correctly... and I've not quite been able to figure out if it's me, settings, camera, weather... somedays it seems fine others it's seems off... it is 7 years old, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised if something has gone 'off'. So I'm starting to think harder about new equipment.

Add to this, it appears I may have an opportunity to go to Africa this summer, so now might be the time I should get serious about thinking through my camera equipment.

Like most people here, I definitely have a soft spot (and perhaps illogical allegience???) for Pentax, but am wondering if I need to re-tool my thinking.

Does anyone have any thoughts/ recomendations?

I'll add a few things that have been in my thought process.

1) I'm not a pro (don't do much with my photos but post on the internet), not rich, so I have a hard time spending super big bucks on equipment.

2) I'm not a gearhead and kind of actually like being a bit minimalist about equipment.. I hike a lot, so don't necessarily want to carry a lot... that's one reason I chose the 18-200. A decent 'most everything' lens. (but definitly not for birds - *sniff* - I bird a lot.. so maybe it's time to rethink my minimalism)

3) I can be hard on things.. I've had more than one 18-200... first one got misaligned after lens hit the ground when I stepped in bagder hole... (so I'm a little scared/leery of super expensive equipment)

4) Not sure what I think about mirrorless... I like my view finder, rarely ever use my screen.

5) Not sure I need to spend a lot for bells and whistles I won't use (for instance I rarely video. I shoot mostly in aperture priority, auto, a little HDR...though maybe this means I need to do better and learn more)

6) Back to my possible Africa trip... How much gear do I want to haul around? I tend to like to pack light when I travel. I will also be with 4 other people, I think the trip may be a tour, so it's not like I will have dedicated solo photo time... but being a 'trip of lifetime' sort of thing I'll want to be taking pictures! What would be the perfect camera for an Africa trip?

Since I am deep down a Pentax fan... what would be my best Pentax options?
If I decide to jump ship... what is the best option?

I'm sure there are million things that I should be considering that I'm not even thinking about... I'd love to hear your thoughts on the camera purchase decision process.

I had 2 days of files on my sd card taken with my K50.
The second day has disappeared.
I put the card in my tablet and can see the first day, but not the second. I then put the card back in my camera and the second days shots are gone.

I presume this is a card glitch, but have 2 questions.

Is it possibly I inadvertently fat deleted a single folder on my camera?

Does anyone have any file recovery/recovery software advice?

If possible I really want these photos back, of course they were taken 2000 miles from home.

Thanks for the help!
