I'm not avoiding it , i'm just adding an alternative that could be usefull in some occasions. I actually prefer green button metering because it's much easier to focus with small apertures. All roads lead to Rome lol

I would just like to add that M-lenses can be used in AV-mode if you don't mount them all the way till they click in : set the aperture fully closed and mount the lens while looking at the aperture tru the front element , when you see the aperture opening up (because the aperture lever gets moved aside) stop mounting the lens and return until the aperture is fully closed again . You can now use AV-mode by setting the aperturering to your desired f-stop and the camera will automatically adjust to the correct shutterspeed just like with M42 lenses. You can always psysically remove the aperture lever for the same effect and then you can mount the lens till it clicks into place . Only disadvantage is focussing because of the darkness of the ovf at smal apertures . As a more sophisticated hack you can make a shallow "hole" in the lensmount so it clicks in in a position before the aperturelever gets moved aside .

K30 Shuttercount 7235 ,purchase date 28/03/2012 ,manufactured 08/01/2012 serialnr 4407471
So far i've had no problems whatsoever but these complaints aren't giving much confidence in the future of my favorite camera so far ( and i've had a few : MEF ,MZ50,MG,MX,K10D)
I'm used to owning and using a camera for at least 10 years (my ME-F was 35 when it died ,after i used it for about half of that total lifespan : not bad for a second hand camera i got for +/-20€.
My MZ50 i bought for 300€ brand new ,still works perfectly.
The second hand ME-F i couldn't resist buying last year to replace my dead one works perfectly after more than 40 years service
I find it a bit disturbing to spend , like i did only 4 years ago , almost 800 € on a camera just to hear it might give up at any moment .
Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to me and feeling sympathetic to the people it does happen to : who i'm sure loved the little gem the K30 is when it works like it was supposed to.
I like this camera so much i would buy a second one brand new to make sure i have one for a longer time when the first breaks down, only there is no old stock out there any more
My condolances to the owners of the dead K30/50's ,
To the DIY savy people i would say check out that Russian fix of the problem (it's on here somewhere) ,it is scary because it involves taking apart most of the camera , i would do it if my camera gave up

Oh i see ,got confused because she must have been about 12 at the time lol . Well that 12 year old scotch we used to celebrate an very lucky auction day and it was very nice ,Glenfidisch as i recall ,worth the 30 € i paid for the lot all on it's own ( i think you can't get them for that anymore)

Twenty years ago my first Pentax was a dead cheap second hand ME-F with a 50 mm f/1,4 attached to it that i bought at an auction of confiscated goods . It was sitting in a sportsbag together with a carton off smokes ,a bottle of 12 year old scotch a car stereo ,a sledgehammer and 3 crowbars lol . I got the entire bag for about 30 $. After one roll of kodak 200 i was sold on Pentax forever and it was a faithfull workhorse for more than 10 years until the shutter failed , that 50mm is still going strong though and still gets use on my K-10D ,K-30 and sometimes even on my MZ-50 or my "new" ME-F ( i missed it so much i had to have another working one). I love old gear and i actually only bought that K-10D a couple of months ago (only 150€ with kit and 2 batteries) ,that CCD sensor feels like film, love it
I love the fact you can get so many lenses to fit on the modern Pentax DSLR's and i don't even own a M42 screw adapter yet
My main camera now is the K-30 ,and i love it as much as i do the ME-F
