Thanx Y'all - This is about the conclusion I had come to also. Most of my lenses are the older stuff that don't have auto focus anyway. I also had been reading about the K-3 and just could not justify. It seems like the justifying just got easier. Interesting how the old K100D just keeps on truckin'.

BigMackCam, thanks for the push to the K-3.

Regards; Ben

Thanx all for the quick replies. The Tamron does not have an internal motor and uses the camera motor. The Tamron and the kit lenses auto focus works on my K100D indicating to me the problem is internal to the KR. I'm hoping the problem is in one of the camera settings. I've gone thru the trouble shooting in the manual and tried several suggestions from the forum, to no avail.

When I push the info button on the KR it brings up the control panel screen and block 8 reads MF in lieu of AF.S or AF.A or AF.C. Also the cursor will not stay on block 8 to make any changes. Anybody have any idea what a auto focus module costs to replace?

I bought my 1st pentax on way to Vietnam in 1969. Had pentax ever since. I have numerous M 42's several "K", " M" and "A's" Both DSLR kit lenses, a da 16-45 and an older Bigma, Tamron's a Tokina etc.

I have been using mostly the Bigma an A- 35-105 , M-100 F4 macro and the M42's and K/M-50 1.4. This being said:

Today I put on a Tamron 18-250 which should have auto focus. My Kr will not go into auto focus. I've tried several options from the forum but no auto focus. I put the same lens on my k100d and I have auto focus I've cleaned the contacts, moved the AF/MF switch numerous times, changed from "A" lens to DA lens etc. Still no auto focus. All setting seem to be correct.. I have been using manual focus for many years however my eyes are not as young they used to be. Any idea as to why auto focus won't work today? I push the info button and all it will show is MF. It will not allow me to change to auto focus. It will show focus red light and beep on manual focus but nothing on AF. Any ideas or just go buy a K-3 or something.

Regards; Ben
