DA* 50-135-- to fix or not to fix, that is the question...

Hi, from my findings problem seems to be related to drying grease in clutch mechanism. All it takes to bring lens back to life is to use small screwdriver and turn little screw in the lens mount that is connected to screwdrive. Turn that screw back and forth few times until it feels nice and smooth and it should sort the problem. Also I would like advise not to use camera focus button to do that as extra load on the motor may well be responsible for killing sdm. Hope this helps.

Hi, as I sad in my thread. Most likely the reason behind weird af behaviour is thickening grease. Possibly in clutch. Turning af screw with a small screwdriver back and forward few times usually solves the problem.

As I said, It originates from 9.6 but it is a .dcp file so it may work with previous versions.

Hi,

Please find in attachement pentax k-3 camera bright ACR/lightroom profile. This comes from ACR 9.6, it was originally k-3II profile and was edited to work with k-3.

Enjoy!

Hi,

Please look at my post (#7) in this thread:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/309581-da-1...fix-check.html

I can confirm working method with a small screwdriver, someone mentioned earlier. If anything I would strongly advise not to use AF to force SDM motor to move stuck parts inside the lens. Trying to so may actually overstrain the SDM motor and kill it.

DA* 16-50 SDM quick fix/check

My lens is 2 years old, lightly used, I found similar problem with my copy today. Autofocus wouldn't work propely. I noticed that rotating focus ring wouldn't always move focus scale. I then switched body to manual focus and then focus ring started working like it should. Switched body back to AF and same problem again.

I took the lens off and with small screwdriver I tried to rotate screw drive in the lens. This was initially quite gritty. After few turns going backwards and forwards it would became nice and smooth in operation. There must be a clutch between screwdrive and SDM motor. This was obviously getting tight and therefore SDM was trying to rotate the motor in body (that is why switching body to manual helped, because it physically moves screwdrive shaft). Anyway my lens is back on camera and no problems since.
