Thanks for all the info!
So would a "kit" DAL 55-300mm lens be better than a DA 50-200mm WR if the price is negligible? I can probably get the 50-200mm for around $50-60 or the 55-300mm for $100-120? Both used of course!
Not sure the price is worth the difference for length and a kit lense? Trade WR for length and cost etc.?
For reference I am using the lenses for indoor sports photography. Daughter's BB and VB games right now and then my own creative license later! :)

I am researching into buying a zoom lens for my new K-50. I have the kit lens of 18-55mm, but want to add length and am on a budget. Am looking at both 50-200mm and 55-300mm lens, but am finding different versions.
I've found two for the 55-300mm:
1) Pentax DA 55-300 f4-5.8 (I believe this is the metal mount?)
2) Pentax DA-L 55-300 f4-5.8 (And this to be the plastic mount?)
Are there any other versions that I am missing? Read something about an HD version as well?
Also... is the added expense (cost) worth the extra 100mm over the 50-200mm lens?

What condition is this lens? Does it come with lens caps and/or hood? I am just starting out and need a good, cheap zoom.

Yes, I am looking for a zoom lens. I already own my kit lens 18-55mm. Am looking for something "longer" like a 50-200mm or better.

Has anyone ever used this lens and/or attachment before?
