On a trip over the danube while in Budapest the mist started to turn into dew at some point in the evening. I took that boat trip especially for pictures of the city from the river. After a 30 minute session around the deck, I returned inside, both me and my K-30 drenched. The camera was fine and I got the pictures I wanted. All the other tourist who had a Dslr on their necks hurried up an hid it under their raincoats.

Well the K-01 is a mirrorless technically, but not a mirrorless system per se. It was more a Dslr stripped off its mirror, prism and phase detection AF system. It was an early stage for mirrorless when it came out and its AF capabilities were mediocre compared to other names in the game. the only good thing was the continuation of the k-mount and the legacy of lenses. But the thing I think stopped the concept from taking off was the fact that it was widely perceived like an experiment, unlike the Q system.

Congratulations on your acquisition and welcome to the club. it seems to me you only miss the Fa-2 viewfinder, good luck trying to find it though.
I cant explain what a game changer this is for your shooting, I jokingly call it Pentax's Leica with my friends.
Good luck and cant wait to see more of your awesome videos!
(that reminds me - I should show some more love to my beloved LX)

The 28-105 is your friend. Low cost(relatively) low distortion, pretty shart, and quite fast AF

So I decided to buy a batch of Fuji P&S disposables with the sole intention of ripping them apart to get the roll of film to use with my other cameras. They were loaded with 400 iso film and I thought it would be ok if i just gave it a couple of stops more, so this was shot at iso 100. What I didn't account for was the fact that the cameras were stored in this warehouse under the sun where the temperature was at least 40 degrees when I bought them, so the film was basically fried. and here are the results. In case you cant tell, that's out cat at the lower left corner.

Ok, ok, I know a bit dramatic...
But hear me out, these features really scream Pentax to me.
A bit of context: I have a friend photographer who I hang out with and we compare cameras from time to time. Its the K1 vs the D810, a pretty close match specs wise.
But, when we shoot old manual lenses I am speechless from the nikon:
1. Not only the lens is recorded in a slot in the camera with the minimal aperture, this last one is read in real time when you move the ring and doesn't require stop down metering.
2. The MF indicator help. Two arrows and a circle assist you while focussing, to show you which way you need to rotate the focusing ring in order to achieve full focus, marked by a circle.
I am aware that Pentax had versions of both these options at some time in their cameras. The assisted manual focus was introduced with the MeF, but I don't know it ot was continued after that.
The aperture indicator coupling was dropped when the mount was crippled and this has been discussed extensively in the forums.
What I'm getting to here is: how awesome would it be to see these two features in the k1iii!
It's not like it would would require Ricoh/Pentax to invent something revolutionary, this is all old tech. They would just need to prioritise these functions.
Who knows, maybe with the new analog friendly direction that they are going...

I was thinking: this could really help with the red color shift in sunsets. One of the things that really bugs me about the K1 sensor is its inaccuracy on sunset colors, the bright red is blown out early on and turns into yellow, really unrealistic. I have noticed that with abour -2ev the red stays on, but you loose exposure on the rest.
In theory, if the grad ND is simulated as shown on the Japanese site, it should do the work, since it merges the shot with an under exposed shot.
Just my 2 cents.

I will definitely purchase this feature once it is available globally. It's the least I can do to show my appreciation directly to Pentax (Ricoh). My K1 was bought second hand so they didn't get any money from it.
On the othe hand, of this was pushed more aggressively I might have abstained, but they are doing it so honestly and straight forward, that Im all for it. On the same note, I wish they could bring future features to old-ish cameras like the K1, the new astro tracer of the K3iii would be a great idea.
Personally, I don't see anything bad from Ricoh trying to make an extra buck from this process. We should be glad that our cameras are being supported still.

Thank you very much @ramseybuckeye, that was also my initial action. I tried to find similar lenses with similar number of elements, but no luck.
Anyways, I managed to get it done somehow. I let my brain cool down and tried to put the pieces(of memory) back together. I also had done some pictures of the process and narrowed it down to two elements and the positioning possibilities between them. out of 4 combinations I got it right on the second. I am going to draw an approximate technical drawing and attach it to this thread for future reference.
As a side note I really enjoyed working with this lens, the engineers have really done a great work with it. Although plasticky on the outside, its core is mainly metal, and it is pretty tightly assembled.
Thank you!

Ok, I made a quick sketch.
The sketch is grossly approximated, also the focusing group in front is totally hypothetical. Also the green Aspherical element is totally from my humble perception of it.

I think you might need focus calibration. try a couple of shots focusing through live view and see if they are on focus, if so you need to make focus calibration.

When in doubt, I always tell myself: "what I see is not what the camera sees", and always take a wider shot(when possible), for cropping and recomposing in post. there are certain shots that have a good feeling but that doesn't mean they will end up being a good picture, therefore you have to work with it to give it the sensation you felt when you saw it live.
PS: I hope I am making any sense lol.

I just checked different blinding modes on my viewfinder and the ersult is concistently the same. I remember reading somewhere that light leak from the viewfinder is almost zero in todays dslrs' that's why I guess Pentax doesn't use any viewfinder curtain.
Anyway while searching for amp glow I found this thread: Amp-glow issue on my K-1 Mk II ? - PentaxForums.com
and yes this is identic to what I'm seeing.
Also I dug up my archives and this phenomenon has been there since I first got my camera more than 18 months ago, albeit not consistently. this makes me wonder, what are the conditions which cause it??
Thank you guys for the input and have a blast of this 2022 in front of us!
Cheers!
