Pluto's hot shoe doesn't have any contacts in it. It just provides away of attaching it to your camera or tripod for convenience. The connection is made through the remote shutter release as you mentioned. In the smartphone app you choose which camera brand and model it is for. You do need to make sure that it has the right sync cord for the specific camera which you can get when it is purchased. Hope that helps.

Try Coral's Aftershot, its inexpensive, intuitive to learn and does a good job.Its much easier to learn than Adobe's Lighroom and has many of the same features.

Hello from King City, just north of you. I'm on an airplane path to the the Internatiinal Airport and there aren't any planes in the air. What a difference.
Sounds like your enjoying your camera, I'm trying to get out on a hiking trail in the next few days to photograph spring flowers, its great time of year for it and lots of warm sunny weather coming this week, finally.

Welcome from King City, just north of you. Too bad so many hiking trails are closed due to the virus. I spend a lot of time searching for old-growth forest to photograph unique trees as well as other plants and animals with my Pentax gear.

I can't answer your question except to say I've used them all and found the auto setting has always been the best. Most HDR programs create an odd colour effect but on the K1 the auto setting is identical to a single shot except the highlights aren't blow out which of course is what it is intended to do.

I have worked as a professional photographer for many years and I almost always used a tripod and still do. It's an absolute, as far as I'm concerned, if you want sharper images. I would guess that over 85% of my photos where taken with a tripod. It gives maximum flexibility in controlling motion allowing me to shoot at very slow shutter speeds to get that milky look of water or getting the f-stop up higher to obtain greater depth of field and keeping the ISO low for better quality images.
Most people don't like carrying a tripod and while I would prefer not to, it makes an enormous difference. When I can, I also use a remote shutter release or shoot with the 2 second timer especially when I'm using slow shutter speeds. By the way if your using a tripod turn the camera's SR off
There are also technics I use for photographing moving animals and birds which helps me a lot. It takes a bit of practice but it's a skill worth learning. In tracking animals especially birds I always use the Viewfinder and not Live View. I find I have more successes tracking using the Viewfinder. Using the Viewfinder I keep both eyes open, one eye is watching for the bird inside the camera frame the other eye is looking at the overall scene outside of the camera, that way if the bird goes beyond the camera frame the other eye picks it up and I can then reposition the camera to get the bird in the frame again and it can happen very quickly it almost happens automatically.
When I'm shooting I usually use the spot focus setting. When photographing moving subjects (with the background a long way from the subject like birds against a sky) I change the focus setting to Expanded Auto Focus (getting the 33 focus points) and to Continuous Focus, this almost works like a focus limiter on a telephoto lens and reduces the amount of hunting the camera has to do as the subject moves through the image frame.
I also use the USER settings on the camera, and save such features to different USER numbers, I have one set up for photographing birds as I mentioned above, another set up for using my older lens and using the camera similar to having a motion sensor with Catch-In-Focus and another for Astro. It is so much faster to use the USER settings then to try and dig through the various menu settings to find what I want.
When I'm finished a shoot I always put the User setting back to my normal settings so when I pick up the camera another day I know what it is set for. I learned this the hard way after having been at a shoot and couldn't figure out why the camera was not doing what I had expected and I missed some very important shots all because I had changed a setting the previous shoot and forgot.
Getting sharpe images is part camera functions and part photographer ability.

Yes I always make sure my cameras (K 1 & K 5) have the right time. I also have a destination time set as well. I spend the summers in a different time zone so I just press the destination button when I change. I also change the time when I travel. Most of my work is related to nature photography, when a shot of a particular animal or bird was taken can be very important.

It sounds like a really good editing solution. I might try the 30 day trial as well. I haven't been using the version that came with the K1 because I found it too slow although I have read about, forum members having good experiences with the purchased version.

I really enjoyed your story. I bought a K 1 just after they first came out which was an upgrade from my K5. I shoot mostly nature and specifically forests which require a high dynamic range and the K1 is likely the best camera for this.
Last summer I made arrangements with a pilot to take me up and shoot from his plane, over a large forest and lake area during the Fall Colours. Unfortunately it didn't work out do to weather and airplane mechanical problems. So its on top of my to do list for this summer.
You talked about photographing air planes but my interest is more shooting from airplanes So don't know if this is a fit but I'll be watching this thread to see if it also goes in this direction as well.

I have the lens on a K5 and while I do get fringing sometimes, its not often enough to consider it a big problem. I just took a few shots with it at tree branches like the ones you showed and they were all fine. I took them when there was some cloud cover so not major contrast and again with very strong back light, just so the sun was outside but at the edge of the frame. Out of quite a few shots there was one that had noteable fringing. I have noticed that fringing seems to show up more when the object like the tree branches is a long distance from the focal point.

I like the gravity camera, when can I get one?
Several years ago I was photographing during a hurricane, winds 150 km an hour. While I do know better, I pulled out my trusty K5 with a fa 28-105 lens and photographed waves breaking on the shore (directly into the wind and rain). What can I say not my finest hour.
When I returned inside I toweled off the water and let the camera and lens sit to dry. About an hour later I tried taking a shot and of course it didn't work - wouldn't focus. I shut the camera, took out the battery and when I took the lens off there were water drops inside between lens and camera. I dried off what I could and left it out on the table for a few days. When I tried it again it worked perfectly. Still use the camera and lens without problems and the lens is now my main walkabout lens on my K1.
On another occasion I dropped a kenko set of extension tubes in a swamp never to be seen again.

Thanks for the link "pepperberry" they are very nice, they almost have a 3D look I'm now leaning toward that lens, I just looked at them on my phone I'll take another look later tonight on a larger screen. I think it would work great for astro, but might be a bit of larger lens than "jawats" wanted

I,ve done some photos using astro tracer on K1 with FA 28-105, f 17-28 fisheye and while the fisheye worked well I prefer the non-fisheye look. At 28mm on the K1 I got some nice shots but I'm looking for something wider, right now I'm looking at a Sigma 20mm f1.8 EX DG or a tamron 17-35 dg f2.8-4 can't decide so I'd be interested in hearing from "peeperberry farm" about the Sigma 20mm. I want a good all arounnd landscape lens that will work well for astro as well.
I am finding that I have to cleanup the purple fringing in some of the older lenses.

I always "carry on" my gear, as you said its not just about the cost of camera equipement it's also about having it there to use. At large international airports baggage does get lost now and then although they are generally pretty good, at smaller local airports security isn't always good.
Most times I carry-on my tripod as well but it does make the security people nervous so I have been putting it in my checked baggage lately although I don't like doing it. If you have gear that's over the allowable weight check with the airline you might be able to pay a little extra to be able to take it on board, if not, place the gear you could mange without (if it were lost) into your checked baggage. In some situations I will put my extra flash , lights or a nonessential lens in checked baggage if absolutely necessary.
I have travelled on Sunwing and they can be very dissorganized at some of the smaller airports and if flights get delayed or changed because of weather or other reasons, bags can get lost or stolen. Also make sure you pay attention to both size and weight restricts, Sunwing will sometimes measure your bags as will some other carriers.

I use a FA* 400 and have had great success with with it. It is very sharpe and lightweight as long lenses go. I've used it over many years and hiked 12 to 18 kilometre trails carrying it in my back pack and wouldn't give it up for any other lens. Its a workhorse and will with stand a great deal of bangs and falls. I once tipped my tripod over while standing on a rocky trail and the lens landed front glass end down in the rocks luckily it didn't hit the glass but left a few bangs and dents which didn't have any adverse effect on it's ability to take photos. On a K1 it focusses quickly and accurately.
They sometimes show up for sale in the form's Market place although their price as a used lens tends to be fairly high.
Also, if your going for a lens greater than a 300 a tripod is necessary, particularly if you are shotting wildlife. I used a tripod for about 80% of the time, for both my long lens shots and wide angle.
