Love it. The advantage with cameras with is that those not in the know think that they are toys! Thus they can be used for street photography without appearing to be used by a professional! (That's my opinion anyway :) )

Because of the above comments about the Tamron 70-300, I gave mine a few basic tests. The autofocus worked at all focal lengths, but it is quite slow with this compared with my other brand of camera using its own brand of zoom telephoto and its own Tamron 70-300.
The serial number of my Pentax fit Tamron is 611496.

After a couple of months use I cannot fault my K-S1. The images are clean, the colours are good straight out of the camera. I took it to a windsurfing event a few days ago with a cheap Tamron 70-300 zoom. I was amazed at how quickly and accurately the autofocus worked on small figures at extreme distances. Delighted with it and the results.
Because mine is white, I am sure that some people think that it is a compact camera, which works with it (me) in the street photography area!

The Pentax S1a arrived today complete with the (square) clip-on exposure meter. The camera is in very good condition, not mint, but 50 year old cameras can be expected to show some signs of wear. Everything seems to work. The ERC is in very good condition too. The battery in the exposure meter was completely corroded, fortunately the space where it sits was not too bad and I cleaned it out. The meter now works and seems to be fairly accurate.

When I said that I would like a Pentax S1a I found what I think is a nice one on ebay. It hasn't arrived yet but it has the clip-on exposure meter, ERC. and a Pentax book. Hope it is as good as it looks. See below.

I spy a mountain with snow. (Looks like a low hill, but the top is at over 1000'.)
(Posted at almost exactly the same time as noelcmn's picture, which I didn't see, so it was intended to follow on from wpresto's!)

I introduced myself on here a few days ago. As well as having a competing DSLR kit and a couple of digital compacts I have a small collection of film cameras from the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's and '80's. A few months ago I found a mint Pentax Program A, then a very good Pentax MX with a couple of Vivitar lenses. I also have a number of Tamron Adaptall lenses and five or six different Adaptall mounts.
Years ago I had a Pentax P30 and a ME 1 Super but I didn't keep them long.
I started getting interested in the K-S1 as it is now very affordable. Looked up every review and test that I could find. I decided that it had some features that I would like as a second DSLR with the option of trying out some old lenses.
As a result I bought a new white! K-S1 plus kit lens. It arived this morning. I haven't had an opportunity to properly test it out (it is pouring with rain). But I like the look of it. I will give more detail when I have been out & about with it. First impressions, heavier than it looks, and as some tests say, it is not comfortable to hold and my hands are not big, but I'll get used to it. And I like the menus.

Thank you very much for all the kind messages of welcome. I am currently thinking of entering the current photo competition, and am waiting for the rain to stop.

TER-OR Although I then lived in Surrey, the competition that I won the Ilford Camera in was held in a hall in Petersfield. The camera was a 'Sportsmaster' with four shutter release buttons down the front, each one focused the lens at a different distance before releasing the shutter! I sold it to my uncle. The first prize was a Ricoh Singlex SLR.

Hello from Hampshire, England. I have been a photographer for over 60 years, my first serious camera was a Zeiss camera, 16 exposures on 127 film. I was a schoolboy at that stage and joined a camera club, I was by far their youngest member. Since then I have owned dozens of different cameras, my first 35mm camera was the excellent Voigtlander Vito B.
In 1963 a friend bought an Asahi Pentax S1a and I hankered after one but I couldn't afford it then.
I entered a large photo competition in about 1964 with a picture of a flower, I came second out of 85 finalists, I was handed my prize, an Ilford camera by the late Jonathan Routh of Candid Camera TV show fame.
Lots of things happened in my life after that, got married (twice) joined and left camera clubs, kept taking photos, had some in a Picture Library, a few were sold and published, but eventually all the pictures were stolen.
I was more interested then in the 90's in other hobbies, I had a comprehensive Minolta 9000 35mm slr outfit and the digital revolution passed me by. Then in about 2004 I bought my first digital camera, it was a Pentax Optio 30. 3.2 mp camera. I was still not so interested in photography, time passed, moved house and I decided to join a local camera club.
I then had another slightly more advanced compact camera and decided to buy a DSLR for the first time (2013 but not a Pentax).
Then I had a 10 x 8 print (colour) made from an image taken with the Pentax Optio, mounted it properly and it came top with a score of 10/10 in the intermediate section of the camera club's comp., I then realised that it is not about equipment, you do not need to spend 1,000's. I still own the Optio.
Then, I started to collect old film cameras. I searched ebay, charity shops and car boot sales, keeping the very best and selling the cameras I didn't want. I don't specialise but I buy cameras that look good, have great performance or ones that I used to own or drooled over in my local camera shop in the 60's and 70's - hence I have an immaculate Voigtlander Vito B with its guarantee card, instructions etc. I have about 30 old 35 mm SLRs now, of various makes, most in working condition.
Now we come to Pentax. I decided I liked the look of the Super A and similar era bayonet mount Pentax, I knew that the lenses were great and I did some research on here a few months ago before deciding to becoming a member yesterday. I found an immaculate ProgramA with an f2 50mm lens and bought it (not cheaply) I put one film through it but haven't sent it off yet.. I then bought a Pentax MZM just for the lenses that came with it.
Recently I decided to look for a Pentax MX camera and found one with a Pentax 50mm, f1.4 a 28mm Vivitar, a 70-205mm f 3.8 zoom, various filters and accessories on ebay which were bought for slightly more than I would have paid for the 50mm. The camera is in VG+ condition and I am about to put a film through it.
I like the look of the modern Pentax DSLR but cannot afford to change systems now.:)
In 2014 I took an online photography course and it improved my picture taking and composition skills enormously.
So, as of now, April 2016 I am still taking a lot of digital photos, entering them in competitions and I will start looking for more classic Pentax. I might get a S1a sometime, but it has to be first class.
25th April. I have just remembered. A few months ago I bought a mint Pentax Efina APS from a charity shop. It still had a film in it. Next time I send a film off for process I will add it to the order!
