A very photogenic place indeed. I feel that Ektar was the right film choice to handle the latitude of bright shades in the desert.

We can all say we "suffer" from having "too many" cameras, but in truth there are far more cameras, especially film bodies, than people who will use them which is why so many end up at auction sites, garage sales etc. At least that's my logic. So if we didn't maintain humble collections, most would probably end up being tossed out, *gasp*.

Therefore I have "saved" a Spotmatic SPII, MX, MG, MZ-5, ME Super and a host of other cameras from a fateful end ;)

Lenses are a different story however...

Why no love for Mamiya Sekor?

Old discussion I know but I'm new to the forums. I came into the SX series about 5 years ago when I picked up a Mamiya DSX1000 for cheap. It came with a Mamiya-Sekor SX 55mm f/1.8. The results I got were so nice I started looking around for more lenses. I found a good deal on a SX 35mm f/2.8 that was attached to another DSX1000. I didn't mind a second one as I grew to like that camera with the spot metering option. This is one of the lens/camera combos that gives me the most consistently great results on film. I finally got a SX 28mm f/2.8 after looking for a few years. I also use the SX lenses on my Fujica ST605n with good results. I have chosen not use them on my digital cameras because the aperture ring gets stuck when they are screwed onto the M42 adapters I have. I'm not in the mood to modify my SX lenses or adapters for digital use as I have some Takumars, a Helios 44-2 and the great Rikenon 55mm f/1.4 to play with.

I also have a Mamiya C220 medium format camera with several lenses which I enjoy immensely. So in short, I have plenty of love for Mamiya Sekor and can't seem to get enough.

I have a Helios 44-2 and a Helios 44-M that I've used on several of my M42 camera bodies (Pentax, Mamiya, Fujica, Praktica). I always get great results with these lenses.

A few pics from a trip to the fair, shot with a Pentax MZ5 and a Vivitar 35mm lens and a red filter. Fomapan 400 film exposed at ASA 800 and developed in Kodak D-76. I love that 'dark sky' look.

Hi All, I finally joined the forum after lurking for a while. Pentax cameras are something I grew up with and have also come back to recently. To make a long story short, I started out using one of my Dad's SPII cameras in the late 80s and joined the photo club in high school. I stuck with photography for a while through college and into the 90s. After a brief hiatus my interest was revived after going digital in 2003. After almost a decade of digital point & shoots I went back to film in 2012 and started collecting old cameras. For general use I've settled with the Pentax K system with a basic set of primes and zooms for my MZ-5, MX, ME Super and MG. I also have a lovely SP II like the one I started out with and some brilliant Takumars. Its funny how impressions from earlier in life can keep coming back to you.

I'm attaching a few photos I shot in New Mexico this winter with my MX. The film is Ilford FP4+ developed in XTOL.
