A Camera Bag Cart (Sorta)

Two or three years ago I acquired a cane to help with a few problems. I found that using my camera with a wrist strap was awkward with the cane, so I bought a Cotton Carrier camera harness. I dislike neck straps and found the harness to be perfect solution.

Alas, time has marched on, and now the cane is not always an adequate balancing tool. Also I find that I no longer want to carry my camera bag.

At first I looked at golf carts, Frisbee-golf carts, and some other somewhat strange alternatives. I even thought about making my own cart.

Then my wife, concerned about some balance problems I sometimes have (and with no concern whatsoever for my photography), suggested I get a walker. A walker! The very thought of one made me cringe.

But then I had an idea — a rollator! A rollator is that heavy duty walker with 4 wheels and a seat that you see some folks use. Visits to Amazon and Google quickly found that there are all-terrain rollators with pneumatic tires. A perfect solution.

So check this out. An all-terrain rollator with pneumatic tires (12" front and 10" rear), a seat, brakes, a carry bag, and the all-important beverage holder. My camera bag perfectly fits in place of the bag in the photo. I just have to rig up a bracket for my tripod and then off I shall go.

I chose this one from a selection of 5 or 6. Of course it difficult to make a choice from Internet info with no hands-on opportunity. But this one looked very good. It arrived today. Doing the assembly, I was very pleased with it. It is well designed and built and nicely finished. Now I can't wait to get out and about with my camera — it's been a while.

I just love this combination - the K-5ii s and the SMC FA77. The 16MP sensor seems kinder to the 77's slight softness at wider apertures, and just brings out so much character.

I put the Sigma 180 F3.5 Macro on the K-1 with the Sigma 1.4 TC as well. Also had two Flashpoint MF12 macro flashes on the end of the 180.

According to the EU shop, that 2099 includes 350 in taxes.

Reminder: Keep your software up-to-date

I use FastStone ImageViewer for the most basic things in my "workflow", starting with the initial culling process, ending with cropping the pictures I converted with DxO. I shoot RAW+JPEG, so the initial culling always consisted of me double-tapping the arrow keys to get to the next pair of RAW+JPEG images, and having to delete both when an image was garbage. I had read about FastRAWViewer as an alternative for the culling process, and tried it out, but it didn't feel as intuitive as I was used to by FastStone. I could invest the time to get everything set up just as I like it, but I would also have to pay for the software after a month of trying.
Turns out, I hadn't updated FastStone in years and they added the pairing option a couple of years ago. Now I'll be much happier to tackle the most annoying part of my photography process :)

And to generalize my experience, just a quick reminder for everyone out there, keep your software updated, sometimes new features will be included that make your life a little easier :)

Awwww, shucks, Tony, you're making my head feel inflated, you're much too kind. But, then again, your professional flower images are so well composed, I don't even try to post mine along with yours! I had to hardscrabble through rough thickets above the river bank to get near enough to that bridge.

This image is the Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge across the Charles River in Boston...

This can have many causes. One I could think of right away is if the settings you are at don't allow the camera to regulate the exposure, because the "correct" exposure is outside of the range you are operating in. For example, if you are in TAv mode and have set the aperture to wide open and the exposure time too long, in bright enough conditions the camera can only adjust the ISO down to the base ISO of 100, but for a correct exposure it would have to be able to set it to 10 or so. Then you'll have two options (which you can combine): stop down the lens and shorten the exposure time, enough so that the "correct" ISO lands in the range that is set.

One other reason could be that you have accidentally dialed in some exposure compensation.
