The Dobwalls Forest Railroad at Dobwalls, near Liskeard in Cornwall, opened in 1970 and operated until 2006 after which the railway collection was disbanded. The railroad was a miniature railway based on the Denver and Rio Grande and Union Pacific Railroads in the USA. The images here were all taken on slide film and on either an SPII or MX camera.

Class 507 EMU 507014 comes up the rise from Old Roan to Maghull forming a Liverpool Central to Ormskirk service on Grand National Day 2024(13-04-2024). 507014 leads 507016 in the 6-car consist. This is likely to be the last ever day of intensive 6-car Class 507 service on the Merseyrail Network. Photo was taken on a K-3ii, with DA* 60-250mm lens and Pentax 1.4x converter and was intended to show the incline of the track as much as the train itself.

Three generations of electric multiple units on the Merseyside rail network - latterly known as Merseyrail.

Class 502 EMU just about to go over the level crossing at St. John's Road, Waterloo, Liverpool. Photo taken from the footbridge. (scanned from image taken on slide film. Date probably 1970s).
The 502s were introduced from 1939 and gave around 40 years of service.

The 502s were replaced from 1978 by the Class 507and 508 units. EMU 507 027 arriving at Maghull North station with an Ormskirk to Liverpool Central service on 22nd April 2023.
These now 40 year old trains are in the process of replacement by new class 777 units.

Class 777 EMUs are the latest units for the system, and they are approaching the final stages of taking over completely.

One 2-car Class 502 unit is currently under restoration to a non-powered state, and it has recently been announced that one of the Class 507 units will also be preserved.

A couple more photos of these older types:-

This image, scanned from a slide, is undated but is probably from the late 1970s.

A 1970s view, taken on slide film at the Festiniog Railway a little above Tan-y-Bwlch station, North Wales, and entered into a photo competition. It was published, as a Christmas card, by the Festiniog Railway Preservation Society. Probably taken on my SPII camera, and re-scanned in 2020.

Been there, but had my operation about 2 years ago. As to waiting lists, have you explored the possibility having the surgery done on the NHS but in a private hospital? This speeded up my diagnosis and treatment. As to the pain, have you spoken to your GP and/or pharmacist about CBD capsules? These were suggested to me by a friend who worked in a pharmacy. I never took more than half the suggested max daily dose but they "took the edge off" the pain. My wife is currently having hip trouble but for other medical reasons is not keen on having the hip replacement operation. She takes one CBD capsule daily, which helps.

K3 Mark III sunset photos

I take a lot of sunset photos. In general, I make no specific alterations to the camera for those photos. I don't have a K-3iii, but most of my recent sunsets have been taken on K-1ii and K-3ii cameras.

My usual technique for most photography is to use TAV mode, auto or multi-auto white balance and the "vibrant" colour finishing mode. My lenses also carry polarising filters. To meter, I usually find a suitable mid-exposure tone in the viewfinder, accept the camera metering of that spot, re-compose, and shoot. The camera is more or less permanently set to a -.7 exposure adjustment. Sunsets normally work for me with this method. I shoot RAW+.

If the result is not what I'm looking for, this might be the exposure - more likely over-exposure with sunsets, so I choose a different tone in the viewfinder and go again. Once a tone is established, the rest of the session normally flows easily.
I am looking for well saturated colours, some detail in dark foregrounds/frames, and detail in clouds or on the sea - many of my images are taken at the seaside. Depending upon the scene, lighting, composition, etc., and my choices, the exposure may need adjustment to bring out exactly the detail I'm looking for. I usually do this by adjusting the precise tone I meter. I find this much the quickest way to make the adjustment - often just a slightly different area of the sky.

The colour balance might be off - in which case I will switch to the daylight setting or maybe try others if the balance still appears to be off. I find the auto setting works most of the time but just occasionally, the camera will fail to get it right(as I see it).

Occasionally, because I use the vibrant colour setting, the colours are over-saturated, in which case I'll switch to a less saturated setting.

In post-process, I may well slightly tweek a jpeg, often to lighten under-exposed ares, but if the result is too far off what I want, I'll go into the RAW file and process from there.

The OP's problem does sound like over-exposure. As has been said above, sunsets taken over water do make it easier to get the exposure right due to the reflected light evening out the dynamic range of the image. Strident skies, very bright cloud edges, direct sunlight, may all take the image outside the dynamic range of the camera sensor but, so long as the exposure is not too far over, post processing can often recover a surprising amount.

Sometimes everything comes together straight out of the camera, sometimes quite a bit of work is needed. Nature's displays do make the effort worthwhile.

Hope this helps.

This reinforces my view that the most important factor in good photography is not the rules of composition, the camera, the lens, or the light, it is "the nutter who presses the shutter". I'm further convinced that a good photographer is a person who, whilst living his/her life, walks around with eyes open to see what is around them, and responds to what is seen. The precise kit might help, but it's far from being the most important factor.

I agree with this. Pentax seem to have a handle on how to run their business to produce an acceptable(to them) profit. Their new model policy seems to have a fairly long development cycle so that new models usually are a significant upgrade on what went before. They also react when, as seems to have been the case with the K70/KF change, a replacement is made necessary for other reasons. I'm happy that Pentax do not "churn" their models as all that results in is a higher spend on various areas of a business without there necessarily being significant upgrades. The end result would, however, be much higher prices to customers.
