With a zoom lens like the M 75-150 (not so heavy and preset diaphragm possible) and may be an additional macro extension ring it‘s easier imo to take macros compared with macro or micro lenses. The zoom will not have the same high resolution but in many situations there will be a better 3D effect and when travelling, a zoom lens is in the pocket:-)
Normally the macro lenses are calculated until 1:1 magnification. If you‘d like to go beyond, many manufacturers recommend to mount the lens in inverted position. There are also recommendations to invert normal lenses (40 - 60mm) or the Takumar 28/3.5, when they should be used in macro and the results could be better than with the use in normal postion and with extension-/macro rings. With c-/d-mount lenses it’s fun to go beyond 1:1 and the *istD is a perfect camera for this kind of work!!!

The exposures made with the istD I like very much and for me they are second to none on behalf of clarity, colour, a. o. characteristics.
This one I’ve made with elbows on ground and the d-mount lens Yvar 36mm (made for Bolex-Paillard 8mm movie cameras).
