Just wanted to put in the title that it is NOT part of the serial numbers that were offered service for this. I bought this camera about a month and a half ago and this has only happened once but I'm wondering if updated firmware fixes this at all? I tried to power off the camera, it was a pretty cold day so not sure if that might've been the issue. But It would not shut off, so I had to take the battery out. I haven't had it happen again, so I'm not sure if it was just a fluke, but I'm wondering if I should update the firmware just in case? Is this still an issue people are having? All the searching I've done doesn't seem to have it mentioned after 2015.

Nope, it's after that flashes by. I uploaded a video to show my issue.

Youtu.be

not sure if you can embed video here, but I just took that a moment ago to better explain the issue.

Oh my god I think I figured it out, I'm so slow. I think I'd set it to exposure bracketing by accident? And then totally missed that I'd done it on my menu. Ugh, all that trying to figure it out and now I feel so dumb

Sorry guys. Thank you for those who answered, forgive my absolute noobishness.

No, I should have clarified, they do not update in the lcd, the live view, or the viewfinder. None of it updates when it gets "stuck". And I would greatly prefer not having to use the viewfinder as I use a magnifier usually attached to my lcd to see things properly, my vision is crap haha. But no, right now, when I can't see the settings adjust on the screen, they also aren't showing any changes in the viewfinder.

I'm sorry ahead of time if this question ends up sounding confusing. I'm not entirely sure how to word the issue to be honest. I will try my best, though.

I have a feeling I messed up a setting somewhere, but not sure where to look. Every time I take a picture, the very first time I turn on the camera, I am able to adjust the shutter speed and aperature and see the actual settings I'm making on the viewfinder/lcd screen whether in live view or not. However, after I take a picture, the settings don't update on the screen when I adjust them. They do change, I just can't see what they are changing to on my screen so I end up guessing and taking multiple pictures to get it right. It won't update on the screen again until I open the menu and then close it. I don't even have to change anything, I just have to hit the menu button twice. I thought perhaps it was specific to a lens I was using, but I've tried it on four different lenses and all of them have the same issue (vivitar 50mm manual lense, rokinon 14mm manual lense with the "A" setting -sorry I'm new so I don't remember what that's called, tamron 18-200mm autofocus lens and my kit 50-200mm lens). I can get decent pictures it's just taking way more work than it used to to get the settings right. So I'm worried I hit a button or messed with the settings somewhere and have no idea which one it is. I've tried looking for what might seem obvious to me, but even googling mostly brings up the aperature block issue which.. I don't think this is if I understand that issue correctly.

I've even updated the firmware just tonight to see if something in that might help, but it's still happening. So any ideas anyone might have? I'm kinda at my wit's end :(

Edit: I figured out the issue, I'm sorry for being a noob x.x It was the fact I had somehow set it to exposure bracketing. And then didn't notice. ARgh.

Question 1.

I got a lens off of ebay a couple of weeks ago (VIVITAR VMC 50mm F/1.8 lens), and it's manual focus only. Now I don't really mind that, except my vision is kind of fuzzy around the edges of things. Like I don't have super sharp clear vision due to pretty bad astigmatism. And since the viewfinder and my glasses don't play nice together, I rely pretty much entirely on the live view of my k-50. Unfortunately when using manual focus I end up having to do a lot of guessing as to whether I've got it as sharply focused as possible, even zooming in on the live view.

Is there any kind of magnification or something that might help with either the viewfinder or the live view that would make it bigger? My problem here is I don't know exactly what I'm asking for, just that my eyes are very annoying and make manual focus life difficult haha.

As it is right now, my solution is to just take multiple shots of the same scene and adjust the focus one way or the other if I think it's slightly off. Sometimes this works, but a lot of times it really doesn't.

Question 2.

The current lenses I own are
-DA L 18-55mm WR f3.5-5.6
-DA 50-200mm f4-5.6 ED WR
-Tamron Auto Focus 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF)
-VIVITAR VMC 50mm F/1.8 lens

Are there any others that are I guess I'd say "budget" type lenses that anyone can suggest that would be good for macro photography, landscape photography, and wildlife photography? I often feel like the 200mm isn't quite enough distance to get the kind of close up detail I want for say the animals I take pictures of at the zoo, or the birds at a wildlife refuge that are skittish around people. And I've read in several places that it's good to have a wide angle lens for landscape photography but I'm not sure if any of mine qualify as that? I'm still very new to interchangeable lens cameras in general. And I'm assuming none of these qualify as a macro type lens, so I'm just wondering what I should be on the lookout for that has a decent image quality.

Question 3

I've seen on amazon and ebay "teleconverters" and I'm not entirely sure I understand how they work and what they are for. My assumption is that they double the focal length of your lens? Like if I added it to my kit lens it'd be 400mm? Or am I understanding that all wrong? Are they worth getting or is the image quality distorted too much with them? Also things like this, would that work as an interim macro and wide angle lens for someone who can't afford the "real thing"?

Sorry if these questions seem obvious, I've tried to read up as much as I can on my own but it gets to a point where you need someone to lay it out simple style lol.

Hi all! I've loved taking pictures since I was a kid, but I never had an opportunity to get a DSLR (or an SLR for that matter) until last year. My husband got me the Pentax K-50 from Microcenter for Christmas last year and I couldn't be happier!

My first experience ever using an SLR was my grandfather's Nikon in the late 90s when I had a black & white photography class in high school. That got me interested in more advanced photography, but it had always been something out of my price range. I still can't really afford the higher quality lenses but I've been stalking e-bay and amazon for anything that might be good for a beginner. I welcome any suggestions as well for lenses that might be good for landscape photography, astrophotography (I love checking out the aurora borealis and I would like to get some pictures of the milky way), macro photography, and wildlife photography. Those are my main areas of interest, though I will literally take pictures of anything ahah.

My flickr album, if it's okay to post that, is here. I've come to these forums quite a few times since I got the camera, I just never got around to registering. I figure it's high time that I did, so nice to meet everyone!
