Given the rather modest size difference between the new APSC body and the ergonomically and optically excellent FF K-1, I see the price point difference as a crucial factor. I have been perfectly happy using a mix of FF and crop lenses on the K-1ii and in my experience the difference between having let's say the 70/2.4 mounted on the K-5 or K-3 vs on K-1 is negligible. If anything, the K-1 feels and works better for me even with the small DA lenses on it. Unless the new crop body has other aces up it's sleeve beyond the viewfinder, or costs substantially less than the discounted K-1ii, the latter may be a more attractive and open-ended option even for those who at the moment own only crop lenses.

No, you are not alone. My impression is very much the same. What I find particularly out of place is the dismissive, in some of the comments outright belittling tone of the "moderators", who seem to take it upon themselves to gang up and talk down an ususpecting newcomer who just happened to express an opinion. This will not help the community or the brand.

Refurbished GR III

Greetings,

My refurbished GR III arrived just before Christmas (very quick turn around time, on the 2nd day after the order). The package contained all standard items, including the USB cable and the manual, however, the camera came in bubble wrap, not in the original box.
Also, the firmware version was 1.10, not the most recent 1.30.

Of course, neither the lack of the box nor the need to update the firmware in any way affect the functionality of the camera, which is perfectly fine. The only limit at this point is my learning curve - after years of using solely SLRs, the GR feels positively tiny.

Oh yes, the camera seems to have been handled before. It arrived with a barely discernible, maybe 1/8 inch long shallow scratch/smudge on the finish of the body. I would imagine that these details will vary in each individual case.

If you have the DA 21 and the DA 20-40 Limiteds . .

My experience with both lenses is similar to most of those already posted. I have to second the comments of NZ_Ross, the 21mm non-HD version produces fantastic starbursts on rippled water. If this is your cup of tea, I have not encountered another DA lens with similar characteristics. As others pointed out, it is great, very compact walk around lens in crowded streets, markets, etc. On the minus side, in addition to the lack of weather/dust proofing, the maximum aperture is a bit limiting in darker locations, e.g. indoor bazaars, bars, especially when photographing moving subjects. This is less of a problem on the most modern bodies but on my K5IIs one fairly quickly runs into the high ISO/high noise regime,
The 20-40 is an entirely different animal, although it is still remarkably light and compact, nearly as inconspicuous as the 21. Even though it is a zoom, in pure optical terms it is hands down superior to the 21mm. In some situations it may lack the magic of the 21, but it is very sharp and contrasty - a more modern lens, no doubt. The fast, nearly silent focusing is well above the Pentax average.

Pentax DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited lens - differences between old and new version

My experience has been very similar. I have the HD 15mm and SMC 21mm. The HD DA15 is a very good lens but it my hands seems to lack the magic of the older SMC DA21 (I am sure both the technique and the taste have something to do with it).
The DA15 is great for outdoors architecture and street shots, a little less so indoors where the f4 is at times limiting.

Have been using Pentax gear for 7+ years and browsing the Forum for almost as long - it is high time to "formalize" it ...

Best regards to everyone
