In Fullscreen viewing mode of an image, the bar that appears when moving the mouse to the top of the screen contains a symbol to hide RAW files. When that has been set, you can see the option in settings -> RAW to couple them

I use FastStone ImageViewer for the most basic things in my "workflow", starting with the initial culling process, ending with cropping the pictures I converted with DxO. I shoot RAW+JPEG, so the initial culling always consisted of me double-tapping the arrow keys to get to the next pair of RAW+JPEG images, and having to delete both when an image was garbage. I had read about FastRAWViewer as an alternative for the culling process, and tried it out, but it didn't feel as intuitive as I was used to by FastStone. I could invest the time to get everything set up just as I like it, but I would also have to pay for the software after a month of trying.
Turns out, I hadn't updated FastStone in years and they added the pairing option a couple of years ago. Now I'll be much happier to tackle the most annoying part of my photography process :)
And to generalize my experience, just a quick reminder for everyone out there, keep your software updated, sometimes new features will be included that make your life a little easier :)

I ordered two lenses in the past twelve months from Amazon, and on both the seal on the box was missing and there was no European warranty card. The lenses and everything else looked pristine, never before used. When contacting Amazon, they offered 10% off of the already great price when I kept the lens and wouldn't return it. They were both sold from and shipped by Amazon, but I think it has been established that they can't/don't keep their stocks of marketplace sellers and "original" Amazon stuff separate?
Does leave a sour taste when those things happen regularly.

This can have many causes. One I could think of right away is if the settings you are at don't allow the camera to regulate the exposure, because the "correct" exposure is outside of the range you are operating in. For example, if you are in TAv mode and have set the aperture to wide open and the exposure time too long, in bright enough conditions the camera can only adjust the ISO down to the base ISO of 100, but for a correct exposure it would have to be able to set it to 10 or so. Then you'll have two options (which you can combine): stop down the lens and shorten the exposure time, enough so that the "correct" ISO lands in the range that is set.
One other reason could be that you have accidentally dialed in some exposure compensation.

It would have to be very cheap now for me to get one. And I'll have to check if the lab here offers the option for half-frame images. I could see myself getting one if both of those points will be met to my satisfaction.

Samsung "The Space" 27" WQHD (1440p) as main monitor, I got it a while back for a great price at the time. It was perfect for me because it was a) an upgrade on my previous 24" iiyama ProLite XB2483HSU which is now my secondary monitor, both in size and resolution, and b) with its 144Hz screen and variable refresh rate capability it was also great for my second hobby of gaming on the computer, and c) with its peculiar stand it didn't only work on my desk, I could also profit from the promise it has in its name, my usable desk space expanded by getting this monitor.
The one thing I didn't like was the way the miniDP-cable pulled down on the port at the back of the monitor, which did cause some trouble over time, but I was able to deal with this with a bit of tape.

Just found out that A Tale of Two Cities was originally serialised in two local newspapers.
It was The Bicester Times, it was the Worcester Times.

Interesting that they grouped the K-70 with the K-S2 rather than the KF in the question which cameras we own/use.

My girlfriend is turning 32 soon... I've told her not to get her hopes up.
"After all," I say, "We're only going to celebrate it for half a minute"
When she asked what in the world I was talking about, I pointed out "This is your thirty-second birthday"

A little related, regarding perspective, a little thought I heard Neil deGrasse Tyson say today (in an older video): the tides are not coming in and out, but the hills of water are more or less stationary between Sun and Moon, and the Earth's rotation is making us go into and out of those hills...
On the topic of photographing the eclipse, not gonna happen here in Germany for the next 57 years or so? At least a total one. Doubt that'll still be in my lifetime, and I don't know about the status of my current gear at that time anyways...
Doesn't matter if partial or total ones, I much rather look at pictures taken by people who are much more passionate about those sorts of photos than myself... I have no particular interest in trying myself at photographing that sort of thing, at least not right now.

An etymologist, an entomologist, and an etiologist walk into a bar.
"What'll it be?" The bartender asks.
"I'll have a beer," the etymologist says. "A word which comes from Latin bibere, meaning "to drink".
"I'll have a Campari," the entomologist says. "It was originally dyed with crushed beetles!"
The bartender gets them their drinks. "And for you, sir?" he asks the third man.
"I'm just wondering how I got here," the etiologist replies.

I asked myself the same question and got weak when the price went below a certain threshold and just went for it, and I do not regret it.
I think the closest competitor from Pentax might be the DA* 55/1.4 which I do not have and never used, so I can't comment how it compares to that.
I do have a K 50/1.4, an M 50/1.4, an A 50/1.4, an F 50/1.4 and an (SMC) FA 50/1.4, of which I have probably used the FA the most. I don't know if they're optically all the same, the diagrams look very much alike, they're at least all made with the "double Gauss lens" concept I think?
Common wisdom seems to be that if you do not NEED the 1.4 aperture, you're better off with one of the f/1.7 versions of the other lenses, which are smaller, lighter and less expensive while better than their f/1.4 counterparts starting at the same apertures of f/1.7 up to I don't know, 2.8 or so?
But, if you do need or want to use the lens at wide open f/1.4, and want the absolute best performance when it comes to corner-to-corner sharpness, microcontrast, least amount of aberrations, smoothest out-of-focus hightlights,... then the new HD DFA* 50/1.4 is the lens for you to get, if you can live with the size, the heft and the price of the lens.

That made me remember the Nikon 1 AW1! That one managed to be compatible with all Nikon 1 lenses, I think, and not only the two AW lenses that were released at the same time as the camera. But the AW lenses couldn't be used on other cameras iirc... I'm still a little sad that the system died, and that the DL cameras never came to market.

Would this be true for internal zoom (and focus) lenses as well? Couldn't the air movement happen all inside of the lens (or the lens body combination)?

Just looking at the graph it doesn't look like the numbers still keep going down, we're past bottom? And considering the shift from DSLR to Mirrorless means more expensive cameras (correct me if I'm wrong to assume that), I guess in terms of $$$ this means the money spent on ILCs is going up the past years?

I would look for the flash and try if it still works. Perhaps you can get a little extender cable to get it off-center. The PLM at 55 or longer will work, the 100 macro as well though on APS-C you'll be further away. Close down the aperture to f/8, I'd look for a dark background if possible.
When you're at the practice all the time anyway, practice with your own kid first to see what works, different focal lengths, different apertures, with and without flash, flash on camera or off-axis, look how the pictures turn out and then you can apply that recipe later to the real deal.
Regarding reflectors, perhaps you can find a white wall that you can work next to? So you can use that to bounce some light back to the other side of the kids faces without having to invest in more stuff?

I have one, bought it used back then for use on my K-S2. It wouldn't AF in Liveview, and to confirm I didn't imagine it or remember wrongly, I put it on both my K-S2 and K-3 III, and it is still like that: no AF in LV.
I remember having read somewhere that it might require a firmware upgrade on the lens, and you'd have to confer with your local Sigma dealer if that would still be possible. I had exchanged some mails with the German Sigma reps some years ago and it would have been possible back then (they would have done it for free, I think I would have had to pay for postage only, if I remember correctly). But Covid came in the way and I didn't go through with it.
It works fine in viewfinder operation and manual focus works fine as well, so I kept it.
