It was my go-to lens this summer for normal FOV landscape shots, especially with pixel-shift. Highly recommended.

It works very well on the K-1, especially for its light weight. Shield it against flare, though. I'd love to see a new version of this with the latest coatings.

Autumn in Northern Michigan presents opportunities for detailed subjects. I find that pixel-shift with the FA43 can get me nearly as fine of detail as my old favorite Vivitar S1 105/2.4 macro.

Compared to the 15-30. this old lens isn't as sharp, but it weighs only 1/3 as much and sharpens well in Lightroom.

I asked 'Mr. Leitax' when a Zeiss-NF.2-to-K-mount adapter might be coming.

I inquired directly to Zeiss about whether they'll start offering Pentax mounts in light of cameras like the K-1. Here's the reply:

Dear Kevin,

Thanks for your inquiry.

Sure, the Pentax K1 is an interesting camera body.

Unfortunately, we had to discontiue our K-mount lenses in 2011 because the request was too low. So we do not plan to offer K-mount lenses again within the next future.
If the Pentax full frame bodies reach a comparable market share than Canon and Nikon full frame bodies, we will re-consider it again.

For further details, please do not hesitate to contact us!

With best regards

I've seen some images posted that make it look otherwise, but at all aperture settings and with no hood, I got substantial vignetting and blurry edges/corners. I still like the lens for crop use--just don't want folks to be disappointed on the K-1.

How much cropping did you need to do on the 18-35 image?

On their in-depth review, testers here had some recommended settings for best K-1 AF-C tracking. Have you tried those?

On your first image, when viewed full size on my monitor, I see a white edge on the details that almost looks artificial, like the edges applied using focus peaking. Is that just how PS renders back-lit edges, or something you see more commonly?

Feels that way to me. Also, when I do push adjustments like sharpness in Lightroom, the images seem to tolerate more of it without looking pushed. Not sure why, and some of it might be misperception on my part.

Here are some shots from a local Mike Matthews macro workshop/shoot with our beloved Vivitar Series I 105/2.4. Due to time constraints, these were generally shot handheld at 1/200s., f/16-f/18. The expected motion blur was non-existent, which I'll credit to a terrific shake reduction system. Correct. The modifications I meant were cropping and digitally removing significant vignetting that would otherwise limit use in FF mode. The images are still beautiful, but I'd not want to mistakenly assume that a particular lens is good uncropped if it isn't.

Suggestion for all posting pix: If your FF mode image has been cropped or substantially corrected, please note that, so that viewers don't wrongly assume that it covers FF better than it does. Love your images, btw.

This was already our favorite lens. The tilt screen and focus peaking make it even better. Full image and 100% crop.

Best wide angle lens for K-1?

Just got a nice FA 20-35mm/4 for ours...very happy with IQ so far, and far cheaper and lighter than the 15-30. Our walkabout set will be that and the FA 43, plus maybe a DA 70 for more reach. Each of them give my pixie wife a combo that's as easy to carry as her K-3 with Sigma 10-20 or 17-50. If you need extra wide and clear, there's the Samyang 14mm.

I have a Sigma 10-20mm/4-5.6. It vignettes badly at every focal length. Don't know about the f/3.5 version. Perhaps he's shooting it at FF and manually cropping.
