I have a K-1 and am considering buying a Sigma 50mm f/1.4. Does anyone have direct experience using this lens on a K-1? I am aware of hairline scratch it may create on the K-1, but I'm wondering if this lens will work in FF mode (vs crop-mode). Does it create vignetting if used in FF mode?

Hi Arkanfoto.
Greetings from Tennessee. Before moving here, we lived in the Finger Lakes (Auburn). I worked in Geneva and my wife in Aurora. I'm very interested in the lens. I shoot with a K1 and K3.
Is the price firm? Would you take anything less?
Many thanks,
Jeffrey

I have been thinking about buying the Pentax AF-540 FGZ P-TTL or the AF360FGZ II Flash for my K-1. If I wanted to put the flash unit on a stand about 10-15 feet away from the camera, can I sync it so the K-1 will make it fire? Do I need to buy some type of transmitter or will the settings in camera and on the flash make it sync remotely/wirelessly? Any tips in setting this up?

I took these photos last Saturday near my home in Sale, Creek, TN. There was a nice fog that had rolled in from the night before. All three were taken with a Pentax K-1 and a DA 35mm lens.

So am I safe to assume the following .... in general, using a DA lens on a FF camera reduces the megapixels to approx 15 because you are only using a portion (cropped area) of the FF sensor. It's NOT that image quality is being degraded. Rather, the megapixels are reduced because you are using LESS real estate (i.e. a portion) on the FF sensor. Is that correct?
Thanks again to everyone for their great insights around this topic.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. Given the technical aspects of how a DA lens works on a FF K1 (in crop mode), how does it impact image quality? Is image quality degraded when you use a DA lens in crop mode?
Many thanks,
Jeffrey

I used my DA 35mm lens on my K1 today. I took a round of photos using the auto setting (which automatically switched it to crop mode). Then I tried it in FF mode and it worked fine. I looked at both sets of photos, but really couldn't tell any difference. My understanding is that using a DA lens on the K1 will reduce an image to 15 megapixels? Is that correct? And if correct, what does that technically mean? Also, will using a DA lens on the K1 in crop mode reduce the quality of an image? Many thanks for any insights you have might regarding this.

I've been shooting for nearly 35 years. I started with a Minolta X700 ... meandered through various point & shoots ... then an Olympus Pen (mirrorless) ... then, I moved to Canon. I went with the SL1 - light, small, features. Because I do a lot of hiking and it was easy to carry, it seemed a good fit (basic, but solid). But as I evolved as a photographer, I wanted to move to a more semi-pro camera/lens. The Canon 80D was just about to launch, but I didn't sense it was worth the upgrade. So I started exploring options - which camera (and camera system) was best. After reading lots of reviews, watching hundreds of videos, and looking at what would best meet my needs, I settled on Pentax. Why? The menus made sense, it was feature rich with plenty of options, they were ergonomically comfortable, there's no slap (love the quite shutter sound), and most important, they produce fantastic images. With that, I sold all my Canon gear, and bought the K-3, lenses, and related equipment; one of the best decisions I've made. I've since bought my daughter a K-50 and I recently added a K-1 to my kit. Sure, Canon and Nikon dominate 80% of the market. And yes, there isn't a retailer in my area where I can physically touch a Pentax DSLR. And of course, the K-1 has a limited lens range in the DFA line. I can accept those realities that many others have discussed on this thread. But at the end of the day, I know Pentax is a world-class brand who ensures their gear is top quality. I'm now a proud Pentaxian and a happy Pentax evangelist wherever I go.
