I liked this quote from the review "Then there’s the color replication. It is so colorful and vibrant that it reminds me of the Nikon D810 sensor but with lower noise."

I have a mix. I was new to Pentax and set out to get what I could. After dabbling now a bit with the K 28/2, K 50/1.2, 77/1.8, 300 DA and most recently the 15-30 FF I have already noticed that if I do not want to do post processing the 15-30 and 300 DA are pretty much good to go right out of the camera. The 77 jpgs have also been quite good right off. The older lenses needed some help with the raw files. But then I like doing the work in Photoshop. If you prefer to not do much post processing then I think the newer lenses might be a better choice. I should add that the newer lenses tend to have auto profiles for fixing issues that the older ones do not; yet.
Bottom line is I have liked the shots I got, if I did a good job of shooting them, equally across all.

Iknow I am weird so please don't go there. I do appreciate the link beingposted. I have had quite a few different digital cameras. In the past I wouldhave been right there reading and then drooling over the newest camera. Sellingor trading mine at a loss. Now that it has been out for a while there areseveral threads here on the forum and reviews out there about the K-1 and whatit does well and what it does not. Forthe first time I don't care. I read them and don't care. I look at my ownresults. I look at the wonderful examples people on this forum are posting. Idon't care what the reviews are saying. The results speak for themselves. Otherthan for a few specialized uses (which I am not into since I do not shootvideo, fast action motion and I use raw) the K-1 is excellent. I think we aregetting close to the point of diminishing returns in this industry for allpurposes other than commercial. Thiscomparison is interesting but does nothing to sway me. My camera acquisition syndrome seems tobe cured by the K-1, well at least in remission. |

What a different world it would be if they had evolved that 110 Pro and dropped the 35mm and medium format gear.

Somehow autofocus pictures of moving bikes just don't matter.

I think that Pentax wanted a great still image photography camera and figured they would fit whatever video in that could without compromising still image quality. For me it is a perfect fit with my iPhone and its 4K. If I liked videography I would buy a Canon Cinema EOS or Blackmagic. Cameras that do not compromise video quality to accomplish still images.

FWIW I submitted this question on the Ricoh site and got a reply (I removed a few details like personal contact information): -----Original Message-----

Subject: Pentax Support Thank you forcontacting RICOH. The RICOHExtended Warranty for Advanced Cameras costs around $100 and must be purchasedwithin 30 days of the camera purchase from a dealer like www.bhphotovideo.com or www.adorama.com. If you are inneed of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technicalsupport center at 800-877-0155. Sincerely, RICOH IMAGINGAMERICAS CORPORATION PHONE:800.877.0155 My Email: I recentlybought a K-1. It was 5/29/16. I looked around the sites for an extensionwarranty and found none. Yesterday on the Pentax forum someone posted a noteabout a Pentax 3 year from B&H. There was some confusion over whether thishad to have been bought during the first 30 or 60 days. Can you provide me moredetail? Is this warranty available directly from Pentax (Ricoh)? How much doesit cost? Thanks |

After I bought my camera I searched all over Pentax (Ricoh) for some sort of extended warranty offer. Found none. I am now at about 45 days. The BH listing includes a statement:
"BEST ANSWER: You would have 30 days from the date that you purchased the camera to purchase an extended warranty. It is the decision of the manufacturer to honor the extended warranty if you purchase this and the camera at separate retailers, however I strongly suggest you ensure that the retailer is authorized by Pentax, because otherwise, the extended warranty will not be honored."
I would hate to buy this and find it is of no use to me. Can anyone confirm in writing from Ricoh that 60 days past is OK? Without that I am not going to take the chance.
Also can someone point me to a list of authorized dealers?
(Note: for some reason I am also seeing signs of a $20.00 2 year extension for DSLR's that Ricoh has had or still has. That one also states very clearly that it is only valid within 30 days of the purchase. I think I saw this on Adorama)

Not sure whether to reply or edit the original but here goes. These are the top 2 corners from the brick wall. The bottom corners are far enough forward that they are a bit out of focus. I can upload those as well if useful. Untouched from the PEF saved with Photoshop.

Hard to follow those but here are my first try with the new camera. The top 3 are with a new K 2/28 as well. The last was with the DA 300. |
