This has always been one of the most civil and useful sites of its type on the Internet. It is a shame that some folks have recently been venting their frustrations in a negative manner. I appreciate everyone's efforts – especially our moderators – to keep our forum respectful and courteous.
Thanks for this message and these steps. I am only sorry this was necessary.

At the end of last year, I stayed a couple of nights in the city of Matsue in Japan. One reason for doing this was to visit Izumo Taisha, probably the oldest and one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan. I took a Yakumo electric tilt train from Matsue to Izumo city, then a bus to Izumo Taisha, but on the way back I used the Ichibata light rail. I then boarded another Yakumo express back to Matsue. At Matsue, I saw one of Japan's luxury cruise trains, waiting for the guests to board. A one night trip on the Twilight Express Mizukaze (sea breeze) will set you back about $2,500.
Before my train to Izumo arrived, I saw the Sunrise Izumo sleeper train. There used to be a lot of sleeper trains in Japan, but very few survive the advent of the Shinkansen. The speed of the bullet train makes sleeper trains obsolete.

The Yakumo limited express. Here in Australia, Queenslanders were impressed when an electric tilt train was introduced in recent years. Japan introduced the series 381 electric tilt train in 1973.

This is the main hall at Izumo Taisha. The rope is believed to protect the building from evil and weighs over a tonne.

This was the first Ichibata train.

Then I had to change trains to complete the journey back to Izumo city station.

Finally, here's the Mizukaze.

Thanks. I rather liked that third pic too. They may have been commenting on the quality of the water. We last topped up the tank that provides water for garden and toilets when the dam behind the house was down to virtually "dead" water. That was early December. It is completely dry now. There is nothing really special about the pics, particularly with the chain wire "bokeh" behind it. But they were mostly to send to my granddaughter in Sydney. She takes a great interest in wildlife.
Thank you. No fires here, thank goodness. There is a low pressure system moving through so we have a chance of rain. Yesterday we were supposed to be an 80% chance of 20-40mm (that would do for a start). But the storms were patchy. For example, the radio just said there was a fall of 64mm in one hour south of Millmerran. We are 35km south of Millmerran and we got 4mm in 24 hours. The same forecast (80% chance of 20-40mm) for today. Maybe it will be our turn.

A first-time siting for me of this bird. Attachment 483937
I found it impossible to get decent shots through the foliage, but for what they are worth, go here to see some additional shots of the same family group.

35mm slide conversion, originally taken in the early 90s. I still need to work on my colors for this one... but it makes a nice black and white.

Nice shot. Could be snow fencing. Used to reduce the amount of windblown, drifting snow that accumulates on roads. If Amonraw is standing on a road here that's probably it. Still just a guess though.

That is a really nice shot GRB! It looks frigid, but the blue skies must be welcome this time of the year.

Not the sort of day to be out in a little boat! nice image, but to be honest I would be tempted to try increasing the contrast to see if it draws out more details. A good shot though, makes me glad I'n not outdoors on a day like that.
