As a new GR owner, I'm intrigued as to how a teleconverter would work with my camera. I've bought the converter and hood kit and have ordered an Olympus 49mm thread 1.5x converter which was sold with an Olympus 0.8x converter with 49mm thread to see if they'll work with my camera. It's going to be interesting to see if they work or not. I tried a cheap second hand Sigma 1.5x video converter which left very soft left and right edges on the 4:3 aspect ratio at 35mm crop, I wasn't too happy with that as the colours and contrast were weak compared to the GR's usual output in vivid with positive film effect shot in RAW.

I have Sigma's 17-50mm EX f2.8, 18-50mm EX f2.8, 10-20mm EX f4-5.6 and 17-70mm f2.8-4 OS and they're all great lenses which do exactly what I want and expect of them. I also have an old 170-500mm APO from the film era which works well for me. It's sad that they've not released any lenses for our beloved K-mount for some years now, but it's a sign of the times. Sigma desires volume and the L-mount alliance has taken their business in a new direction.
I'll continue to use and enjoy my Sigma glass alongside my superb DA Limiteds, DA* 50-135mm f2.8 and DA* 60-250mm f4.

Dreadful news about the break in at Ffordes. There's a lot of it about here in the UK, no fewer than five photographic stores have been burgled over the space of a few months.

I'm thinking of buying an f2.8 standard zoom lens to fit in between my Samsung branded 12-24mm f4 and DA* 60-250mm f4. The options for me are:
Pentax DA* 16-50mm f2.8 SDM
Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC HSM
Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 SP Di XR
I shoot RAW on the K5 and K3. I'd be very grateful if fellow Pentax users could offer their experiences with any of these lenses.

Thanks Steve, I'm using a genuine Pentax adapter, because I've heard mixed stories about some of the third party ones not being the best. The lens I bought thankfully doesn't have a hugely over-sized A/M switch either. I bought it primarily to use on my film cameras to bridge the gap between 28 and 50mm focal lengths.

It's great to hear you've not had any problems using Takumar series lenses on Pentax DSLR cameras, I'll be giving them a try on my two because of the legendary status of the lenses.
Canon do indeed have a clearance problem, their EF-S lenses for APS-C cameras aren't compatible with FF because of the rear of the lens won't clear the mirror on FF bodies. Nor can EF-S lenses be used with teleconverters of any brand for the same reason.

Hi Guys,
I've ordered a SMC Takumar 35mm f3.5 M42 lens which I intend using with the proper Pentax M42 to K mount adaptor on the following Pentax K-mount bodies:
35mm Film
SFXn
Z50P
Digital
K5
K3
Please could you let me know if there are any pitfalls involved in using this lens on my cameras such as the possibility of the mirror catching the back of the lens at minimum focusing distance? I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
Paul

Thank you for the kind replies, some nice and interesting suggestions have been made for me to think about.
Most of my shots have been taken at between 70 and 300mm on the 55-300, I got some nice in flight shots of the Vulcan bomber at 300mm when she made her final flights a few years ago. I did have to crop them a little until I was happy with the results. I've also taken photographs from the top floor of a multi storey car park at Manchester Airport of aircraft on the apron and cropped those too so they filled the frame.
I've no intention of selling my 55-300, as I find it an excellent lightweight lens which delivers a nice blend of colour, contrast and sharpness and it's a good travelling companion for my DA 16-45 f4.

Hi guys, I'm Paul, a hobby photographer from Lancashire in England. I've been shooting with Pentax (including Samsung) DSLR cameras for the last ten years, my current kit is based on the K3 and K5 with a selection of mainly Pentax lenses chosen for very specific reasons. I particularly like the Pentax system for the very distinctive and impressive colours and contrast the lens coatings deliver and the fact that the handling and ergonomic design of the controls on the camera bodies I have are simply the best of any camera body I've ever tried.

I'm looking for a zoom lens to supplement my eight year old DA 55-300 that offers better image quality. I use my kit for travel and general hobby photography, my core interests in photographic terms encompass transport including commercial aircraft, the latter being something I'd like to develop further. Please could anyone offer any opinions? Thanks Paul.
