Sigma 50mm F/1.4 EX DG HSM on K1?

First off you don't want to shoot in crop mode on the K-1. You will go from 36mp to 15mp :-O

In my experience, a lens made for a crop sensor that works on full frame (without crop mode) will be very soft around the edge of the frame.

I am at work so I don't have my K-1 in front of me. So it uses the min stereo jack and not some sort of 9 pin cable? Can you confirm this one will work:

Hey guys,

I am looking for a shutter release cable for my K-1. Any suggestions? I looked on amazon and got a couple hits but the connection didn't look right.

I thought the review was mostly fair but maybe a little biased on the auto focus section. My main problem is if I am using AF-C on a Nikon body it is almost always AF-C d9 (the 9 points in the middle are used for tracking). Using a single point means that if the point moves off the subject it might refocus on something else. Using 9 points, on the K-1, seems to work a lot like the Nikons I have owned in the past.

$200 (for both) seems like a lot but a good flash cost more than that. I am going to pull the trigger

Ok this looks like what I need. So the receiver and transmitter are the same device. Since the Yongnuo doesn't have built in radio functionality I would need to purchase 2. Is that correct?

Are you saying you can put a Nikon flash in the hotshoe of a pentax and it works? Really what I want is a radio transmitter and a radio receiver built for pentax that doesn't care what flash brand is being using on the receiving end.

Hey guys. I am looking for a wireless flash trigger for my new K-1. I currently have a Yongnuo YN-568EX that is made for a Nikon body. Does a radio trigger exist for Pentax that would allow me to use the Yongnuo YN-568EX?

I still have my D610 to compliment my new K-1. I think that is fine for her to use as long as I don't configure it for back button focus :-D

Ha! Look at that. The composition and lighting is almost the same. I think I was a little wider and maybe the sun was a little lower in the sky

I actually invited her along knowing full well that I wouldn't be able to stay until golden hour/blue hour. She is actually starting to ask me to borrow my camera sometimes. Right now she is allowed to use my D610 with a $100 50mm lens without supervision but that's it. If I am around I let her use whatever she wants.

I will make my way up to the falls again and do some long exposure with the pixel shift. Hopefully in the near future. I need to figure out how to get to the base of the falls. It is all fenced off but I know people can get down there because I see them from the top.

Now that I have my 24-70mm I thought I would give the Pixel Shift functionality a try. I used pixel shift + motion correction. I live close enough to Snoqualmie falls that I can go after work. This was taken shortly before golden hour. The highlights in the water was giving me fits. I shot in aperture priority and under exposed by 2 stops and pulled back the detail from the shadows in post. In hindsight I should have stayed longer but the rainbow effect probably would have been gone and my girlfriend didn't want to stay for another hour.

What you could do with a K1 that you can't do without

I have no idea what a APSC NEX speedbooster is but I have owned several full frame and crop sensor camera bodies and I can say without any reservation that the characteristics of a lens changes when you put it on a full frame vs a crop sensor. Here is another way to look at it. Take a picture on a full frame camera. Now take the same lens and put it on a crop sensor body. Compose the exact picture you just took on the full frame (you will need to back up a little). You will see the DOF changed and the picture looks different.

You also disregarded my comment about having the extra resolution. That is an advantage no matter how you want to spin things.

You attitude seems to suggest that you have never owned a full frame body because I have never seen somebody switch to full frame and then feel like they needed to go back to crop (with the one exception shooting wildlife).

With all due respect it is easy to see the difference. Take a full frame lens and put it on a full frame body. Use a tripod and take a picture. Any picture. It doesn't really matter. Now take the same lens and put it on a crop sensor and take the same picture. The difference is obvious due to the size of the sensor.

Also, it isn't just about eating up more hard drive space. That is something a person says when they don't understand the advantage of having extra megapixels. This means you get more detail. I could be mistaken but I doubt a crop sensor will ever go above 24mp. At least not now with the technology currently available. So yeah you get more detail in your pictures with full frame.

The advantage of crop sensors comes into play when you are talking about shooting wildlife with a long telephoto lens. Then the crop sensor actually has more pixel density.

You probably wouldn't see the extra resolution on the K-1 unless you print big. Something that you can't do with a lower resolution crop sensor. Flickr wont do a good job of showing this since you are viewing from a monitor.

Good landscape lens for Pentax K1 full frame

I find the 24-70 to be the most useful for landscape. If you need to go wider get one of the 14mm lens. The 24-70mm and 14mm together cost just a little more than the 15-30mm

Full frame gives you a shallow DOF compared to a crop sensor which is why it is easier to do a picture like this on a full frame body.

Not yet. Have had the camera for a week and when I looked at the firmware I believe it said 1.00. Can't be sure since I am at work. Is it tough to update the firmware?

Using Image Sync with K1 required 2 SD cards in order to take a picture. If only one memory card is in either slot it throws an error saying a memory card must be inserted.
