Pentax 645Z and Capture One Compatibility request

Capture Fix offers an easy conversion that C1 will import. Without the profiles there is more work to be done in C1 but it doesn't take long to find your own set-up. Skin tones being the most difficult. The available tools on C1 make it a joy to use. Of course some issues of longterm stability.

Yup, I have the 300mm which I've used a few times, particularly for dunes. Decent enough quality with a bit post work, even at f22. I picked one up from Japan for 100USD. The main issue is stability in slight winds. I've had to up the ISO to keep above 1/60 even with a tripod to avoid noticeable shake. Having said that, it's a mounted via the camera and not the lens which would no doubt help.

You can't go wrong with that choice. Working with prime lenses can also be very satisfying.

To answer the original poster's questions, what makes an ideal lens for landscape is really down to the kinds of images you want to create. The 35mm is undoubtedly a fine lens, one which I use regularly, but the150mm gets more outings as it's geared to compressing a scene which can allow more compositional control. I would also say the 150mm is a superb lens in terms of sharpness. The way I shoot means I can't easily tell which of the two lens was used in any one shot. I've selected them as a tool for the composition I have in mind. For examples of both in action there's a recent article in luminous landscape with waterfall examples, which use these two specific lenses.

Many thanks for the feedback. The hospital closed in the mid 90's and became a housing development. At its 'peak' it had its own railway line and farm about 40 km from London. This green belt area was favoured for many similar hospitals.

Back then, the Pentax 67 mark 1 was my camera of choice with a waist level finder and 75mm Takumar lens. Most of the time I shot at f4.5 1/60. Here's an article published last week which shows some of the black and white photos published for the first time when I was volunteering in a psychiatric hospital. It also includes some thoughts about photography and the 645z which I now use.

I get decent results with my 400 A but the FA looks great. The biggest problem for me is shutter speeds below 1/60 and image blur.

Thanks, no I stuck with the defaults, I had Portra 160 set on my phone app which I use to compose ('viewfinder') and scrolled through the Z settings until radiant offered something close. Usually I ignore JPEG settings. One reason perhaps, for not playing with the parameters is, I was exploring subjects from the start and so became 'locked in' to composition early rather than vary the parameters and experiment. I did underexpose as per usual with the Z and this allowed some level work back on the computer without highlights blowing out. The set is really as much about finding interest amidst the scruffy. I've also recently been using the mono setting for another project. Again, I like the tones, In the shadow of the factory.

Recently I've been using the JPEG settings on the 645Z. I've found 'radiant' to be my current favourite. The following is a gallery produced during the current lockdown in a forest close to where I live. Adjustments on the computer are mainly limited to levels using Mac 'Preview'. I've bypassed the usual software in post, although I did attempt to work the Raw files to get the same look in C1 but without success. River path

There's not much wrong with the 645z. Operator improvement should always be at the fore.

As the EU now has a trade deal wth Japan, I wonder if anyone has an opinion on the duty levels, if any, of importing from there.

Hi folks, yes indeed I've found the image in question. It may be better to view the images via the portfolio page portfolio ? Darren Lewey as the front page is just a teaser. The 4th image in the dunes gallery does indeed have a striking white line or two in the top right corner but checking the processing for that file, there's no brush work or any manipulation in that area. The overall image had minimal work done, only curves and levels which increased the contrast. Essentially the white line is the top edge and bank of the dune that's lost texture detail in process. Certainly these small elements become essential when printing and enlarging, not something I do as yet. Megapixel has a keen eye and it's something I'll look at toning down if possible, so thanks for the observation.

For those who have been checking in on the comments made you may have noted that I rarely shoot with wides and my FDA 25mm has been used only a handful of times. I'm now looking to move that on. If anyone is interested then get in touch. Thanks.

From last month's trip to Spain and the autumn colours taken nearly all with the 150mm at f16. The first image shows the 645z's wonderful dynamic range.

For localised editing using layers and advanced features, C1. I believe Cfix works well every time in converting.

Many thanks. It's all about the characters. The 645z and the lens set are a joy to use and reflect on the results. My experience is unfortunately limited to digital files. I'm hoping one day to see the results of printing to a decent size and with a new high quality process. Not cheap but it could be amazing. Carbon Transfer Print | The Wet Print

Here's a new gallery of portraits taken with the 645 and all with the FA 150mm at f2.8 in ambient outside light using an interior room as a clean backdrop. Focus was adjusted manually through the viewfinder with minimal processing in C1.
