I have a few of the Breakthrough filters and the build quality on them is excellent and the grooves on the frame make them really easy to grip and remove. I've also had some of the Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters and the color cast on the Breakthrough ones is much better.

I'm going camping that weekend in northern Wisconsin to watch the meteor shower. Any recommendations for shooting them?

Would be nice if they provided the checksum of the download files to verify their integrity. Attached is a screenshot of the SHA-256 checksum of the k1_v150.zip file I downloaded and successfully installed from.

Results look promising, thanks for the test :)
It would be great to have firmware versions of both cameras in the article.

Just updated, no problems here. As pschlute said, make sure the card with the update file on it is in slot 1. Also make sure the battery is fully charged. I also always format the sd card in camera first. Also make sure that the downloaded file, k1_v150.zip, is unzipped and that the update file, fwdc228b.bin is at the root level on the sd card, not inside the k1_v150 folder or DCIM folder. Hope this helps.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I should definitely play around with the Pentax presets and adjustments more in DCU. I could end up pleasantly surprised.

I don't think so. I shoot raw+jpeg and process the raw in Lightroom. Most of the time I'm happier with the output from Lightroom. Occasionally I'll find that the in-camera jpeg is perfect and go with that. I think processing in Lightroom also gives one more artistic leeway. ---------- Post added 07-07-18 at 05:38 AM ---------- Not to mention the processor in a computer is going to be vastly more powerful than that in a camera.

For the partials I used the "Baader AstroSolar Visual Solar Filter Film (ND 5)".
The 1.4x and 1.7x were both pentax brand. I had the 1.4x closest to the camera, then 1.7x, then da* 300mm. For focusing I used the live view magnification and aimed for the sunspots. It was very finicky and took several attempts to get it perfect. After that I taped it down which held up for the duration of the eclipse. I also used the electronic shutter which might have helped with sharpness.

Got lucky with the weather, most of the clouds passed just north of us over near the Pine Ridge Recreation Area.
