I actually can "encourage" the birds to depart the feeder in an expected path. Out of the frame are other cameras positioned at different distances / focal lengths. In this particular shot a camera is to the right of the bird on my deck on a mini tripod. It's placed closer to the feeder than the other cameras. Also about 12 feet to tbe feeder is my house - so I know he doesn't want to fly the direction of the house. The mini tripod posted camera reinforces and encourages the bird to fly in 4 expected directions (up, toward cam 1, toward cam 2, or toward cam 3). I did the "math" for reaction time and an average flight speed of the bird (feet per second) - so when I press the shutter in reaction to the Finchs' departure, the finch should be at the estimated distance away from the feeder. The calculated distance varies depending on the type of bird (ie. Blue Jay vs. Titmouse).
However, the true secret is the pre-framing - knowing how far to place the cameras away from the feeder in relation to a desired focal length, to capture the bird in a desired space, in relation to aspect ratio / megapixels (no avoiding, but minimizing cropping) 😀.

When I was shooting birds during this time, I use 4 to 5 cameras and I surround the feeder. I'd study the birds' flight paths to and from the feeder and prefocus each camera on a predicted zone of flight.
The cameras are operated remotely from my hidden position in the house.
The keeper rate is extremely low, but when I hit the capture bears uniqueness.

Thank you. I use multi-cameras and surround the feeder with each camera focused on a zone of the bird's predicted flight path.
I've since upgraded my camera bodies to the OM1 and G9II, and I believe I could improve upon these types of captures because of the advancement in sensor readout speed.
I asked one of the engineers from Monster Adapters if they would make a K mount to M43, but he said there was not enough interest. I won't be getting rid of my Pentax glass though.

Thanks. Humbly speaking, I've evolved and improved much since this photo. I've evolved to using 5 to 6 cameras simultaneously to capture more difficult shots of small birds.

Over the years of time being persistent and patient, not only did my knowledge of photography increase, my appreciation for just being alive to experience it did too. As I've gotten older I've become more intune to my mortality and I wouldn't dare show prejudice to things in nature now (not that you do). If it enters the camera frame and the capture is successful, nature will continue to make a spiritual and visual impression for me.
I thank the Starling.

I use a manual focus only, multi-cameras on tripods, activated simultaneously and remotely to capture unique flight perspectives of song birds. I currently use the following cameras:
Olympus E-M1X
Olympus E-M1 II
Two Panasonic GH5's
Periodically, Pentax K-5
--------------------
The additional megapixels (24 vs. 20) and better dynamic range would improve my images in lower light conditions (shade/cloud cover). I once owned a K-30 and a K-3 II, but when I switched to M43 for silent shooting, fps, crop factor (reach) I kept all of my Pentax lenses, and adapt/use them regularly.
--------------------
My multi-camera setup is designed for the cameras to work as a team. What one camera misses the others will hopefully capture. Although I'd prefer a KP or K-1 II🙂 the K-70 would allow me to use proprietary Pentax and K mount lenses. At times when I'm shoot the lighting conditions can change frequently. Having proprietary lenses will assist the camera to work more efficiently (auto iso, auto f stop). The K-70 would join "the pack" and improve my flight capture "hunting" abilities.
--------------------
Theres nothing I can think of that the K-70 can do that my current kit cant.

$249 Lens. I purchased it for lower lighting conditions and to increase distance away from the feeder. At some point I may try to track down and purchase the Zhongyi Mitakon 135 F1.4 (270mm on M43) or purchase a Samyang 135MM F2.

Thanks. The Jay is ascending while peeling away from the camera. This shot is similar to the captured movement from different angle (Samyang 85mm F1.4)

Luck, skill, technique only matters to other photographers and other photographers probably won't be a customer. That being said, so I have no insecurities telling the customer how lucky this shot was while theyre paying me my asking price for a copy.
