The flash is required to communicate with the external flash in either mode. When in controller mode, the internal flash does not add to the exposure, equivalent to turning it off. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if there is a manual setting for the internal flash. Many Nikon cameras have this. You can, however, definitely force the flash to fire at full power and without preflash by making the camera think that a non-A lens is attached. You can do this by using a lens with an aperture ring set at anything other than A, using a non-A lens, or taping over the A contact on the mount. You could suppress the internal flash's effect on the exposure by taping a fully exposed piece of film to it. The slave flash will still fire but most of the visible light will be blocked. Alternatively you could buy a slave adapter that ignores the preflash or fires at a predetermined time after the preflash. Another option might be a radio trigger. These are small, usually reliable, but more expensive.

I hope this is what you are looking for.
Some common lenses: DA40XS
Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC macro (non-HSM)
DA35 Ltd Macro
And a somewhat less reasonable example: Mamiya-Sekor C 70mm f/2.8 with Leaf Shutter using a homemade adapter |

While I cannot recommend this, Nikon lenses do fit onto the K-mount directly using the same mount alignment mark or upside down. Because the Nikon flange focal distance is a little bit longer than Pentax, the lens would focus to infinity. However, lenses only rotates about 15 degrees and do not lock. Furthermore, Nikon lenses may have protrusions which could impact and damage parts inside the K-mount. I have successfully used a non-AI Nikon 28mm lens, which has an aperture ring and no strange protrusions, on a K-x body.
You could also get a modified K-mount or do the modification yourself: Pentax K+ Multi-Mount - Adaptist |

Welcome to the forum Mario!
I have often had this problem with older film cameras. In my case. the problem was poor contact due to a weakened spring in the battery compartment. I solved this by carefully pulling a little bit on the spring using some tweezers. This lengthened and stiffened the spring's travel to provide good contact once more. Be very careful because the spring could break. It may be safer to put a few folds of aluminium foil into the battery compartment lid for a similar effect.
Considering your cameras seems to be in good condition I hope this helps.

When I lived in the US I was able to find expired film on eBay for around $0.50 each. Here in Germany I've had better luck with drug store film (usually store branded Fuji Superia) for about $1 each. I use the bathroom as a darkroom to load the film into the developing tank. I let the film sit undisturbed in Rodinal equivalent developer for an hour and fix with a traditional thiosulphate fixer. I then 'scan' by photographing the negative held flat against a backlight. It's not the fastest process but cheap and produces images of sufficient quality for playing around. I retain the option to get the film developed professionally in colour when I find myself photographing scenes that my low-fi process would not flatter. Another plus is that consumer colour film tends to have a very wide exposure latitude. This in combination with stand development practically guarantees that you get an image even if your exposure is not perfect.
US prices tend to be lower but here is approximately what I needed to get started.
Used development tank - ca. $5
Adox Adonal 500ml - ca. $10
Calbe A300 fixer - ca. $3
Using about 3ml of developer per roll as I usually do, you could process more than 100 rolls with plenty left over to experiment with higher quality films.
The fixer is reusable and I have used my current batch for about 10 rolls without noticeable performance loss.
I don't have any Pentax examples at hand but here's a couple from an Olympus XA on Kodak Gold 200 expired in 2005. They're of little artistic merit as I was just playing around with the new XA, but they might give you an idea of the look. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/001.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/002.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/003.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/004.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/005.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/006.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959396/007.jpg |

You will still find most of these lenses on the used market and in my limited experience often even quite cheaply. Nevertheless, many of their functions will not operate on a digital SLR. See: Pentax Lens Power Zoom
Powered zoom will also not work on all digital SLRs. As far as I know, the latest model to have some power zoom support is the K7. You might search around on the forum. I'm sure it's come up in discussion before.

I exposed a small scrap of old photographic paper in a ME Super with the 17-70 mounted. There's vignetting to say the least, but its minimal at 70mm.

You can get the onboard flash to fire in manual flash mode without P-TTL if you use a lens with an aperture ring. If it is on any setting other than A, no preflash will fire. On the downside, your onboard flash will blast your subject at full force. You could suppress it with a fully exposed piece of film taped to the flash. The slave flash will still fire.

I'm very interested, having recently acquired a K10D body and needing a lens...
... but as a lowly college student I have to ask: What is the lowest amount you would consider?
Thank you.
