Thank you so much everyone for your insight! Im going to now figure out how to calibrate the AF and compare my photos for optimal shooting conditions. I think you all just saved me a few hundred dollars for now!

I feel like its just not as sharp as i want it to be. Im spending a lot of time editing, and printing photos now, so just want to be sure they are as good as I can get them to be. Im sure some of it is user error as well, but it seems as though Im missing some really good shots and have wishful thinking that a new lens may be able to fix this.

Hi-- very beginner photog here and looking to get a new lens to replace my first prime, 50mm 1.8. I was researching a lot between the 55mm 1.4 and the 77mm ltd. I plan on using it mostly for portraits of my family, but want to make sure I am getting the most bang for my buck if I'm putting out this much $$! Will the 55mm handle some action shots? My baby is finally on the move and doesn't just sit still anymore :-)
Any feedback? I read through previous threads concerning the same topic, but not sure what they were using their lenses for!

Mike- thats what I meant by upgrade... adding a new/better lens. I was doing a lot of research between the 55mm DA 1.4 and the 77mm "best lens" Although from reading it seems like personal preference, I think I was leaning towards the 55mm because of the amount of portraiture it will be used for. I like the Depth i get from my current lens, but just thought i can get cleaner, sharper shots with the 55mm. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone,
My name is Amanda. I'm a hobby photographer who loves learning about all things photography! I purchased a K-50 last year and quickly got the 50mm 1.8 prime lens. Now that i have an almost one year old, I'm realizing it's time to upgrade my lens! I've been reading a lot on what most people "graduate" to and I think I'm leaning towards the 55mm 1.4 DA*. I'll be posting in the lens forum soon if I can't make a final decision!
I'm excited to learn form all the experts here!
