Like you, I have crafted my own seals and mirror bumpers from various types of foam. One time, I ordered a K1000 seal kit from Mr. Goodman, and found that it was cut precisely and fit well. The price was reasonable and the order was filled promptly. It saved me some DIY 'fuss' and I was pleased with the outcome.
Sorry to hear of Mr. Goodman's ill health.

Just in case you lose the little spring while repairing, like I did, don't worry. Here is what I did while repairing my Pentax- A 50mm f 1.4 lens....
Got a spring pin of watch strap from local watch repair shop. Cut it at one end. Removed inside spring and cut it to required length. Please don't keep the length of spring too long. Please see the attached photos. My photo shows a rather long length of spring. It should be very short. Its function is to put slight pressure on ball head to make contact with camera body so that camera can recognize it as an A type or auto aperture type lens.
In worst case you can completely eliminate this part and your lens will become M or manual lens.
Hope this helps to someone. Good Luck.

Slow month for content at PR?
My vote is digital version of the Ricoh Mirai. Sure to be a winner.

I have a little of that obsession myself, with multiple examples of the same Soviet lenses - different years, slightly different styles... I understand his problem, even if I'm nothing like so badly affected :p

There's the Tamron 90mm floating around out there (which I have) and it is a great macro and produces stunning photos with my K-1. Probably very similar to Pentax options but at lower cost. Note: I prefer a longer focal length macro since it gives you more lens to subject working distance than those near 50mm (at some cost of DOF).

There's no such thing as mirrorless tech. A mirrorless camera is a interchangeable lens camera without an optical viewfinder. Mirrorless tech makes as much sense as labeling cars without sunroof for sunroofless tech cars....

I recently purchased a copy of the SMC Pentax-F 28-80 F3.5-4.5. SMC Pentax-F 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 Reviews - F Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
(Mine is actually the Takumar-branded version.)
Like many kit-lenses I've used (although the SMC-A 50mm 1.7 that came with my Super Program is a superb kit lens that I still use frequently), this is a modest lens that takes decent pix stopped down.
I like the zoom range although on APS-C, I'd prefer something wider. (I generally use the DA 18-135.)
One thing I really like about this lens is its macro capability. Granted, its macro capabilities are also modest, as the two attached photos show. But as a simple walking around lens, it offers both decent zoom range as well as macro.
I also have an ancient Takumar 70-210 F4.5-5.6 that also offers a macro setting.
I've searched the lens database and can't seem to find other zooms that offer macro settings. Unless I'm doing my search wrong, the only macros that show up seem to be the ones that have Macro in the official name.
So --- finally the question -- is there a way to find other zoom/macro combination lenses through the database, or some other resource? I have a couple of very good contemporary macros (DA 35mm 2.8 Ltd & D-FA 100 mm 2.8) for when I am specifically shooting macro. But I love having a macro option with a walking around lens.
Thanks for any insights.

My #52B was acquired second-hand back in the '80's and has followed me around, with several changes of Adaptall-2 mount and the Flat-Field 2x, ever since. It's as though "Catch-in-Focus" was designed for this lens! As a "tool for the job" it just keeps delivering :)

there is definitely a hole in my prime kit from 50mm and 100mm.. I sort of convinced myself that the 77mm Ltd. would fill that hole one day which would be 'close enough' to 85mm for me..

I'd never even heard of Gurushots until you posted this, but as a result I've just read up on it...
Honestly, the concept leaves me cold right from the outset. The only aspect of it that I find vaguely interesting is the encouragement to get out and take different kinds of photographs. But I can encourage myself to do that... and if I don't feel like going out, I don't go out. I wouldn't appreciate feeling tied into going out and taking photographs just because I needed to complete a challenge within an allotted time frame. Then, there's the gaming aspect... Well, multi-player gaming's not my thing either. Aside from playing the odd game of gin rummy or sudoko on my tablet, or some traditional puzzle games on my laptop, I'm not into gaming at all. Perhaps I'm not as competitive as I once was. Finally, social networking... Well, PentaxForums is the only social networking I'm involved in, if you can call it that.
I guess I can see why some folks would enjoy it... especially younger photographers who are more into gaming and social networking. But it's not my kind of thing, that's for sure...

If I was testing something like the 15-30 I would definitely use the center point AF area, AF in Continuous mode, and utilize the shutter button via viewfinder for autofocus function. I would also use a tripod and focus with the center point on a specific part of the subject area when testing. Not to say that there is anything wrong with testing with live view. Just a comment on how I would approach it.
Good luck with getting a lens that works well for you.

I agree.
Unfortunately, the 'lesson' they learned from K-01 was "MILC not for us", while Sony {from NEX family} and Canon {from EOS-M family} were slowly learning that EVF is needed and how to provide it.

rather embarrassingly, i do not have knowledge of these like what Sandy explained :)
i can only show examples (like the one a while ago).
But yeah, if 77/1.8 is similar to 50/1.2, that is quite something, already.
Here is another example.
FA77, wide open, on Pentax MZ-S, with Kodak Portra400.

for viewing an example.
Image captured by FA77, on film cam Pentax MZ-S, with Kodak Portra160.
Cannot recall whether it was wide open or on f2.0 or f2.8.
(But anyway, just to give an idea, how things may look like, with the FA77, albeit this is on film, not on the K-1)

Hello,
I'm a camera hoarder ehhh I mean collector. So I'm always interested in those obscure parts of history. In the past few months I've been thinking, What was the last manual focus camera? My understanding in that the ZX-M was the last manual focus Pentax camera. It was launched in 1997 as part of the ZX-MZ series. Let's face it: as a camera, it is as exciting as watching paint dry. But hold that thought for now.
So I've been looking at ebay, the marketplace and other sources. I see these hovering in the $25 - $40 range. Many suffer from the mirror gear failure, very common to this series. You can tell by the mirror up in most pictures. So I patiently waited for a bargain. Hey, I'm cheap!
So this one comes up at a relatively low price with the usual warning: As is, for parts or repair. But the pics looked good and the description said something very interesting: "Manual works ok, but not auto."
So I inquired the seller about more details of the failure. The answer? Autofocus doesn't work....
Long story made short I got it for about the price of a lunch with dessert :)
Need to be careful and politically correct about publishing this story.
So I just got it. Will go thru the usual cleaning and testing.
Thanks,
Ismael

I don't think you can stop it re-winding at the end of the roll, IIRC you could only specify whether to leave the leader out or not with a Pentax Function.
