I took this photo in Holly Shelter Games Lands on New Years Day morning. I entered it in a photo contest in the Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, obviously a small regional magazine. I did not win the contest, that photo got the cover of the current issue. But I was contacted about using my photo for a two page feature, I kind of feel like I won as more so than if I did. Sorry about the cell phone pic of the magazine. Attachment 609512 Attachment 609513 |

I have spent many years and countless shots to get an excellent fern image. Finally, I manage to capture the light just right and get something that really impresses me. |

That seems smart. I like the 12-32 it’s not a fast lens but it is tiny and the images I get are good. I carry it on a gx1 when I want the tiny m43 experience.

Here's why I like my camera over my phone: it doesn't take phone calls.

I would argue the other way, that non-Apple customers do get a say by withholding their money from the company. If they change policies and enough people vote with their dollars to other companies, Apple sales go down and could go bankrupt. As it stands now, you are partially correct because the number of consumers not buying Apple is overshadowed by the consumers that are.

So much to love... the composition, the lighting, the hardware!
I heard the theme from Hawaii Five-O as soon as I saw the first picture. I can still picture the residual rocking back and forth from a sudden stop as McGarrett opens the door to get out.

On a related note, if you find that you need a custom mat size, try this site: Bux1 Picture Matting
I had a set of six photos I wanted to frame, and the aspect ratio needed to be something unusual in order to fit the six spaces on my wall that I had available. I found some frames that worked well, but couldn't find any pre-cut mats for 14x18 frames, and custom mats looked really expensive until I found that site. The end result turned out just like I wanted, and their prices were pretty good compared to all the hobby stores around my area.

For about the past 2500 years philosophers have been trying to establish "Art" as an actual category of things in the world. Since nobody has managed to do that convincingly in all that time, we should probably assume that it's a category that doesn't exist. And arguing about which things we think should go into a category that doesn't exist is pointless. If you like it, and you're able to find some meaning in it, then it's art.
Of course, in any society there is always a cultural elite that gets to dictate what that society officially considers to be art. Nowadays it's museum and gallery curators and the big auction houses that get to do that. But if you look back through history, you'll find that many of the works with the longest-lasting influence have been ones that deliberately challenged the conventional notions of art of the time. So if your personal taste isn't what the cultural elite consider to be art, don't sweat it. You're probably right and they're probably wrong.

I don't know about relative intelligence, but most everyone else is still trying to catch up with Adobe, hence this thread.
And while I like and use RT, it's basically an alternative to ACR, which is fine. It does an excellent job at that. In other words, most of these are niche products. They can concentrate on say demosaicing since they don't have to make a bunch of people happy who complain they wanna publish to FB or have the latest lens profiles, plugins, publish services, synching to the cloud, mobile versions, etc.
And as for speed of development, might wanna talk to all the people complaining about the absence of the promised DAM components to Photo Mechanic, Luminar, and Affinity Photo. All at one time or another issued kinda sorta claims have having said capability in the works, with zippo to show.
Finally, as sqrrl noted, Adobe's products in this area are the industry standard. And even the prosumer standard. If you go to classes at your local schools, or camera shops, or camera clubs or even just to YouTube it's all about "well, here's how you do that in Ps...." I think it breeds a kind of resentment, and even though most other products mimic Lr and Ps some, and even though the underlying priniciples are kinda the same (a layer is a layer and ditto for mask), it still can be more difficult to cobble together the tools and workflows one needs, even if they are but a tiny fraction of what Lr/Ps does. But it can be done, even WITH free use of Adobe products: one can use Bridge, or even Lr without Develop and Maps and get all those organizational goodies, while using RT in lieu of ACR and GIMP in lieu of Ps.
BTW, if one does night sky stuff this is a good comparison of the programs with example shots (apologies if already posted): I Tested 10+ Photoshop Alternatives to See How They Stack Up |

An amazing early morning shoot of lava fields at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, shot from a helicopter at a height of probably 20-25 feet. One of the coolest experiences of my life.
Link to original size (with different watermark placement): Lava Creatures: The Claw (Flickr)
I incorrectly entered the lens as 150-450. It was actually taken with D FA Pentax 24-70 (I had 2 bodies with me, one with the long lens and one with the shorter).

The Playa As Catedrais, in Galicia close to Asturias' border, reveals itself only for a while at low tide. To see it and enjoy its amazing beauty, you have to be there at the right time and conquer it by slowly wading into the receding tide: once you get this natural cathedral, the show in front of you makes it all worth it though. Old photo with the Pentax 645z and the 28-45mm. Thanks for viewing, best regards
