Item for Sale
Pentax K1 (w/battery grip) - Sigma 85 1.4 (rare)

Asking Price
1,100.00 USD

Item Location
Denver (United States)

Item Description
**I am a motivated seller. I need to sell off this setup to invest in a proper backup for my Sony system. I was using this as a backup but need a second Sony body for video work. Reasonable offers will be considered.

Ideally, I would like to keep everything together in a group. If there's no interest in everything as a package, I will entertain selling things separately.

Each piece of this package is in excellent condition - this setup has spent most of its life in a controlled, studio environment. Additionally, I baby my gear obsessively.

If you would like to see additional, high-res images, please take a peek here.- NOTE - the Sigma 35 is no longer for sale.

*Pentax K1 with Pentax grip (D-BG6) - Excellent Condition - Camera data, per the tool here on the Forums: Shutter Count - Approximately 97,703 * Manufacture Date - 2016:09:23 * Software PENTAX K-1 Ver. 1.50 * SerialNumber - 7273192 * (the shutter is rated for 300,000+ actuations) | $800 | The actuations are high because I shoot a lot of commercial and editorial work which can really add up quickly, in terms of frames per session. The camera is in excellent condition. There is little to no body wear. Last year, I received the camera back from Precision Camera, under extended warranty, where SD Card Slot 1 was replaced (this was a factory issue and not due to any damage or misuse) and the entire camera was inspected, cleaned (including the sensor/mirror), and returned to factory defaults. The camera looks, feels, and functions damn-near brand-new. Precision essentially gave the camera an A+ bill of health. I have all of the relevant paperwork for the warranty service. The camera includes the original box, packaging, strap, body cap, battery, etc. I'm also including an additional authentic Pentax batter and charger.. After service, the K1 was reset to stock. However, I took a moment to recalibrate the Sigma 85 which required a micro-adjustment of -2 - now, the lens is spot-on wide open. Lastly, I will also include a Cactus V6 II HSS trigger. This trigger essentially translates the Pentax signal into either Nikon or Canon, allowing one to use propriety systems for Canikon, including HSS. I used this to take advantage of HSS when shooting the Godox/Flashpoint system of strobes.
**Upon thoroughly inspecting the K1, I did notice one minor issue. The AF button - on the back next to the aperture dial - is missing the cap. This is not due to damage or misuse. I use back-button focus exclusively and I think the constant use just wore down the adhesive. I had re-secured the button but it apparently fell off in storage. I scoured the area looking for the cap, to no avail. The button is still 100% functional as the post is in place and in great shape. This is an easy, direct-fix, or it can be used as-is without a problem. Since the cap is missing, I've decided to pack the whole lot in a near-new Lowepro 400 Flipside backpack. You can see the missing button here

*Sigma 85 1.4 - Excellent Condition | $500 | As it is no longer produced, his lens is a bit of a rarity. I know many prefer the 77 Ltd in this respective focal range, but I had the 77 and, personally, much prefer this lens. It's damn sharp, focuses quickly & quietly, and is well built. To me, the optical performance rivals the 85 ART. Like the 35, I had to make a small micro-adjustment to get the lens "dialed-in" but that's true for nearly every lens, of course. Also, like the 35, I've not had any issues with the lens not focusing properly, at any point in time. The only signs of wear are on the hood where there are a few minor scuffs here and there. The lens includes the original box, hood (main hood and hood extension for asp-c cameras), front cap, back cap, and pouch. This lens also serviced by Sigma under warranty - simply, for inspection and cleaning - and was brought back to like-new condition.

*Sigma EF 610 DG Super Flash - Like-New | $100 | This unit from Sigma is a high-output, flash specifically for the Pentax ecosystem. It features both TTL and HSS - both of which function flawlessly with the K1 and K3. The unit includes the original box and pouch. The flash was only used a couple of times for weddings. Other than that, it has lived its life in a drawer. I will also include a Rogue 3-in-1 flash grid set. Throwing this is a bonus as I have no use for it any longer.

**Total - sold individually | $1400

***Total - for setup as listed | $1100

***Whether you're an established or burgeoning photographer, this amazing setup allows for an immense amount of creative possibility and produces some of the highest quality imagery I've seen from Full Frame cameras. I've often been asked by colleagues and clients if I shoot in medium format. Those of you who know the K1, and this lense, know-how stellar they are when paired. Furthermore, I am happy to state that the Sigma lens is a great copy - I know that there can be some inconsistency in that regard. For 60% of a new K1, you can outfit yourself with a top-notch, versatile full-frame setup.

*Payment accepted via PayPal. I will cover the cost of insured shipping - and pack each item with the utmost care. Of course, since the items are not new, they are being sold as-is. With that being said, you can purchase with the knowledge and confidence that all items, minus the flash unit, have been serviced and cleaned under warranty. I am somewhat negotiable on price. However, please be reasonable. If you are only interested in one item, drop me a note, and I will notify you, in the order of inquiry, should I decide to sell items separately. Items will ship from Denver, Colorado via UPS.

If you have any questions, would like additional photos or videos, or anything else, please don't hesitate to respond to this post or send me a direct message.

If you'd like to see a few examples of the type of imagery that this setup can produce, let me know and I will send you a few galleries.

Prefer to sell as a lot. Will, obviously, sell individually, if need be. The package price is discounted as such.

If you would like pricing on a grouping (E.G. K3 + 18-135) please contact me directly.

Feel free to make me an offer, on any item.

Pentax K3
Serial | 6150755
Condition | Good-Great
Shutter Count | Approximately 29,500 (200,000+ shutter life)
Price | $450

This was predominantly a backup body and only lightly used. Only reason I’m selling is because I upgraded to the K1.

There is a minor scuff on the bottom of the body, near tripod mount, due to friction from a carrying system. There are also a few extremely minor scuffs at the top of the body, due to it lightly grazing a wall while worn.

Comes with all original accessories: battery, battery charger, strap, etc.

Pentax 18-135 WR
Serial | 5949785
Condition | Fair
Price | $150

There are some scuffs and dings on the barrel of the lens; however, the glass is in pristine condition. Zoom action is smooth, as is focus ring. Original front cap, generic back cap. I lost the hood, so, obviously, it is not included.

Pentax 50 1.8
Serial | 4439059
Condition | Great
Price | $70

The lens is in stellar condition and comes with a metal lens hood. Original front cap, generic back cap.

Pentax 35 2.4
Serial | 4321429
Condition | Great
Price | $90

Condition of the lens is excellent. Comes with a metal lens hood, and generic front|back caps.

Photos of any and all items are available upon request. Additional information is available upon request.

If you purchase more than 1 item, I will cover the cost of shipping; however, I will ask you to cover shipping costs if you only purchase a single item.

Thanks!

85mm 1.4 lens for K-1

+1 For the Sigma 85 1.4. Phenomenal glass. I snagged a near-new copy here on the forum for a fraction of the MSRP. Sigma's 4-year warranty is also noteworthy.

My K1 just arrived and the lens, IMHO, performs even better when paired with full frame. Razor sharp, whisper quiet, and extremely fast AF (for this type of glass).

Will be posting some sample images, over the coming days.

Pentax K3 | Used Bundle | Price | Advice?

Hey, all -

I hope this is a proper place to post my question! If not, I apologize.

So, per some great feedback from forum members, I've decided to take the plunge and purchase the K1.

My current setup consists of 2 K3s and a host of lenses.

To help fund the new purchase, I am planning on selling the newer of my K3 bodies, along with some lenses I no longer want or need.

The bundle will consist of:

Pentax K3 - Shutter Count | 29,321 - the camera is in near new condition. Never dropped, scratched, etc. There is a small scuff circular scuff, on the bottom of the body, near the tripod body mount. This is from a carrying adapted I had attached for a while. Planning on including the original strap, charger, one battery, etc.

Pentax DA 50mm 1.8 - near perfect condition. Both original caps and a metal hood.

Pentax DA 35 2.4 - near perfect condition. Both original caps and a metal hood.

Pentax DA 18-135 WR - good condition. There are a couple dings near the front of the lens. Overall, the lens is in solid condition with normal signs of wear. Glass is pristine. Missing the hood.

Generic carrying case.

Truth be told, I have next to no experience buying or selling used photographic equipment.

Curious about what some of you would consider a fair asking price for the bundle?

Genuinely appreciate any insight, suggestions, help, etc.

Thanks, all! :)

Cheers,

K3 | Upgrade to K1? | Sigma lenses - 35 ART 1.4 - 85 1.4?

Hey, all -

So, I have been shooting with a K3 for roughly 2 years. I have been so impressed by the camera that about 6 months ago, I purchased an additional K3 body as a backup.

Recently, my photography business has really started to skyrocket and I'm looking at upgrading to the K1.

For those of you who have shot with both, is the monetary outlay worthwhile? I definitely have an itch for full-frame and would appreciate the vastly superior sensor. With that being said, I want to know if there is going to be a large enough improvement in image quality to justify spending $1,800? A fairly vague question, I know.

I predominantly shoot portraiture, lifestyle, and fashion.

Also, as of now, I shoot predominantly with 2 lenses:

Sigma Art 35 1.4
Sigma 85 1.4

I know both of these lenses may cause a scratch on the body, if not sent in for repair from Sigma.

What I'm more concerned about is compatibility. I've seen that some Sigma lenses cause the K1 to lockup and are essentially rendered useless.

Does anyone have any experience using the K1 with the Sigma 35 art and/or 85 1.4? If so, have you had any issues.

I absolutely adore these lenses so it's vitally important that they function properly.

Thank you!

Pentax 77 | Wide-open | Soft?

Criminally negligent, even. Ha!

I know that the lens will be at its worse wide-open. I'm just shocked that wide-open it seems to be outclassed by my humble 50 1.8.

Seems like I can nail manual focus wide-open -- with relative ease -- for what it's worth.

Pentax 77 | Wide-open | Soft?

Hey, all -

Just received my 77 - tore open the package like a kid at Christmas.

Of course, the build, fit, and finish are all beyond superb.

However, after sorting through a few test shots, it seems that it is shooting very soft, wide open @ 1.8.

I know that all lenses are soft[er] at maximum aperture. But my 50 1.8 is significantly sharper wide open -- same camera body, same settings, etc.

Haven't been able to find my calibration chart. Maybe the focus is slightly off...

Things seem to change dramatically around 5.6 or so -- still not to the degree that one would expect.

Have any of you had a similar experience? I am trying to determine if it is simply a bad copy or how the lens performs wide open.

I will share a few comparative test shots, once I get them uploaded.

The rendering and bokeh are absolutely otherworldly, no doubt about it. I just feel a little disheartened by the lack of sharpness.

Any input or insight is greatly appreciated, as always.

Thanks, all.

Cheers,

-Jonny

Thanks for the input, Howie. The 77 is the only lens I really "need" right now. Think I'll bite the bullet and purchase at the current price. Will probably wait on the other 2 lenses.

H | I considered this. Actually wound up with a fairly sizeable credit to Amazon, after returning some merchandise; so my funds are tied up therein. Otherwise, I would definitely be shopping for high-quality, used gear.

Hello, all -

So, I am in the market to purchase 3 lenses:

Pentax 77 ltd
Pentax 31 ltd
Pentax 100 wr

I know there can be rather large price fluctuations online, due to a variety of factors.

I recently visited a site (camelcamelcamel.com) that tracks pricing for any item on Amazon; relevant since I plan on purchasing from there.

I noticed that the 77 was going for roughly $680 from February through June until the price jumped to its current $849.

Similar variations were obvious, though somewhat less extreme, with the 31 and 100.

Does anyone know if the hike(s) roughly coincides with the K1's release?

Ultimately, what I am looking for are thoughtful opinions or educated guesses regarding whether I should pull the trigger now or wait for a potential price drop?

I am aware that this is a guessing game and gamble, to a large extent.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Thanks, all!

Cheers,

-Jonny

Thanks for the heads up! When I return my Tamron, I'll be eligible for credit towards another lens but not cash-back. Because of that, right now I'm debating between a new copy of the 77 ltd or 50-135. Both are currently under $900. Do you know if there still seems to be the high potential for SDM failure for new models?

Genuinely appreciate the insight and advice. I definitely have a tendency to get hung up on things like this; extremely analytical, almost to a fault. Putting a lot of time into my non-technical skills right now. I already have a pretty good following, simply through cultivating my social media presence. I'm in the process of utilizing that and other marketing endeavors to slowly make the shift to photography as my main source of income.

For me, it's a bit of challenge because I do a lot of fine art work as well; so I get reeled in by the idea of lens with superior character, rendering, etc. From a professional, utilitarian perspective, the 50-135 is the logical choice. However, from a romanticized point of view, I can't seem to escape the grasp of the 77. Haha. I'm weird and complex. :D

Where I am going with this is that your advice is relevant and timely.

Beautiful photographs, by the way. :)

Appreciate you sharing your experience, thanks.

I agree. I don't NEED either of the lenses but I would really love to have a high quality lens dedicated specifically to portraits. Especially since it is shaping up to be the majority of my business. My personal projects also revolve around portrait-style work. Currently, I have a 35 2.4 and the 50 1.8 -- both produce really stellar images, especially for the price. However, I would like something that has better build quality and produces even better imagery. Especially in a longer focal length, to take advantage of FOV compression and whatnot. Maybe I'm splitting hairs or obsessing at this point. Thanks.

I like to travel light as well, when possible. I own the 50 and use it regularly. It's currently my go-to for portraiture and street photography. I definitely like the aesthetic of the longer focal length though -- compression and all -- given that the majority of my clients are female. Between a more flattering image, the background separation of a longer focal length goes a long way. Thank you!

Nice use of light with the Tamron.
The 77 image is really beautiful; unique rendering.

I had considered this lens but was put off by the potential for SDM failure.

Do you specialize in a specific type of photography, out of curiosity?

Thanks!

Sorry for the multiple posts. Didn't realize there were new responses. Laptop has been sitting idle on this page.

Vanya | Firstly, thanks so much for the advice; especially given your collection of and experience with a wide variety of lenses.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the zoom. I told myself I needed it in case I decided to delve into shooting weddings, events, etc. But that's not the current situation and I'm not sure it will ever manifest. I can say that I refined and evolved my photographic skills through street photography using a 35mm and 50mm lens, respectively. Maybe it's the zoom itself that feels odd and foreign.

I am definitely a fan of quality over quantity and I absolutely feel like I'm sacrificing image quality for the sake of range. I seriously considered the 50-135 but heard a ton of horror stories about SDM failure. Given how much I use my gear and given that my finances are somewhat limited, I opted not to take the risk.

Right now, I'm running 2 K-3 bodies but would love to upgrade when and if finances allow -- so investing in FF compatible lenses is definitely a relevant consideration.

Sandy | Thanks for the input. Size is definitely a consideration, both from a practical standpoint and how I interact with clients, models, and subjects. I like the small form factor of the 77; it is infinitely less intimidating and I feel like people would be a lot more at ease without a coffee can pointing in their direction.

I see that you have both the K-1 and K-3. Are you a fan of the IQ and performance of the 77 on your K-3? Thanks!

Grahame | Appreciate your opinion and insight. Your opinion seems to echo a lot of what I've read -- the Sigma produces sharper images but the 77 produces images that have a more appealing "aesthetic".

glee | Thanks so much for the input.Completely understand that personal preferences extend well beyond technical specifications and on-paper performance.

clackers | Yes, I have. Had to correct for some significant back-focus that became more pronounced as focal length increased.

The issue doesn't seem to back or front focus, but maybe an intermittent combination of the two? Focus almost seems to hop around at times, despite the fact that I use center focus. Though, admittedly, it could me and my lack of refined technique at handholding such a large lens. It is significantly less forgiving than my 35!

For whatever reason, I can't see the images that you posted.

Out of curiosity, do you prefer the Tamron or Pentax for portraits? Or is it wholly dependent on the situation and circumstances? Also, are you using the Tamron on the K-1 or a crop-sensor?

Thanks for the input!

Fred | I used the entire range, from 70-200. I really don't mind longer working distances. The issue, for me, is that the lens is only sharp at 2.8 between roughly 70-100 and above 150 I need to stop down to at least 4.0 in order to get a sharp image. Maybe my technique is weak but I feel like I have a hard time completely stabilizing the lens (due to size and weight), even at decent shutter speeds. The end-result is an image that initially looks sharp but has a very minute blur or ghosting visible upon import. The lens is primarily useful from 70-100 and even then there seem to be intermittent focusing issues. But if I am going to stick in that range, I may as well have a dedicated lens that is significantly faster and produces a much higher quality image quality. I love the range itself and the variability offered is tremendously useful. However, If I have to shoot 4 x the images to assure I get the shots that i need, the utility quickly spirals toward moot.

Unfortunately, that lens is out of my current price range; it looks phenomenal, though.

I had not considered that, honestly. Great point.

Another concern is that the first generation of new designs usually suffers from all sorts of unexpected issues. It's not until they've been on the market for 6-12 months that quality seems to be more consistent. IMHO. Especially for a third-party lens adapted to the "esoteric" K mount. Haha. Appreciate the input.

Koz | That was my thought as well. Obviously, I've seen and heard some really tremendous things about the lens; it's a legend for a reason. I suppose I suffer from a serious, incurable case of paralysis by analysis...

Wildfire | Unfortunately, renting is not currently an option for me. I would love to be able to shoot with both lenses prior to making a decision. Given how often I use my gear, the weight, balance, and tactile feel all make a tremendous difference to me. Between the two do you prefer the Sigma? If so, why? Out of curiosity, do you happen to have similar examples shots with both? If not, no worries, of course. Thanks for the insight.
